Updated 2.08 terrain textures available

Post by Bader »

******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
ANNOUNCEMENT 18th November 2008.

This Terrain texture update has now been superceded by a larger GroundUpdate. You don't need to uninstall anything from earlier, just add the new update on top.

BoBII_2.09_GroundUpdate-v1 is HERE-> http://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/vie ... 10&t=12474 <-HERE

******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

This is an update for those with a critical eye. The 2.08 ground terrain textures were sampled from photos. These carried shadows and they are inconsistent in some areas because of texture rotation in the terrain engine.

So this update removes the shadows. Ben did most of it as part of his ongoing ground work.

Some pics of the new textures, and some teasers of what is coming down the pipe.

(you need to right-click with some browsers, such as Firefox)
Unpack this into your \Battle of Britain II\ folder.
It should add the files automatically into the \Battle of Britain II\landmap2 folder, overwriting the current ones.
Or you can add the files manually if you wish, overwriting the current ones..

We'll have plenty more pics of the new stuff as we get closer to release. It's all very photogenic. Thanks to Super-Ben.

I'm glad to see more and more 3d ground objects! Very nice!
Would it be possible to associate a code to every texture file which tells the game where to put treelines, so we could have 3d ground? (this is the way the il2 ground works) - Just wondering.

Very nice indeed! Now we'll have some angry farmers who can spear the downed Jerry fliers with their pitchforks. And when I'm having to "hit the silk" myself, it's comforting to know I can get a hero's welcome at The King's Arms -- perhaps with time to quaff a pint before catching the last train back to Rochford. :-)

Absolutely. You raised a smile there, Broadsword. :D

Here are some images of England that we have in the works. Hope you like'em.

Classic 1940s England.

Reflected, once we get a stable set of textures we may be able to do something to match a template to them.

Guys, that new terrain and the 3D objects looks great. I'm just wondering whether you're 'Taking-the-Michael' a bit :D

What next? Home guard marching to the pub? Game of cricket going on on the village green? :)

Those Bofors look a bit useful. Could do with more of those.

Cheers,

Battler

Cricket on the village green? I'm sure we would not bother with little English details like that. Would we Ben

The details are absolutely great. 8) The only trouble I find with bob structures is "Where's the shadows?" :o

buildings cast shadows except in the absolute noon day sun. :)

Actually, yes, I rather liked the painted shadows in some areas too, but not others, but they had to go. Dynamic shadows are on the wishlist.
