Is anyone else being hassled by Avast to upgrade to a paid version?

Is there a newer version of the free version that will stop this hassle?

P.

No. You shouldn't need to. Nor have I ever been asked to. Assuming home usage, of course.

It's a regular but infrequent event to be expected of freeware, that they will send a blurb once in a while gently hinting of the benefits of the paid version. Avast will also take the opportunity to do so when it's time to renew your yearly free version, and also when the free version gets a major upgrade to its main program. The latter most recently occurred for me some time toward the end of the summer, and I don't remember the details, perhaps I'm muddling it with the renewal, or maybe even it was a ZoneAlarm update, but for some adjustment I had to go to their website, and there, as usual, you have to sort through carefully to find the free update among all the pay versions. However, it typically takes only a few minutes to sort out, and then everything runs happily without further interruptions til next year.

Thanks for your help.

I've now downloaded the Avast 5 install, hence updating from the 4.8 I had before. I've installed it in the silent mode to shut that woman up!

Strange they didn't simply ask me to update to v5 rather than putting up those 'nag' messages instead.

Thanks!

P.

Thanks Peter, I hadn't realized I could turn off that voice off - found it in the Sounds section of the settings and switched it off.

On Talk like a Pirate Day they offered the opportunity to switch it for a Aaaaargh matey voice (keeping with the Avast theme), but I didn't take them up on it.
