Yes, the reason the TM is a separate item is that it does not play well with others,
so it should not be added in to an install which has a campaign in progress, nor
left in one when a campaign is started. The easiest way to have the TM available
if you have disc space (which is pretty abundant these days) is to make a copy of
your whole game install, with a different root folder name, then you can install the
TM module onto the active install, and switch between standard and TM installs by
switching the names of the root folders - the system will launch the install which carries
the root folder name that was given during installation, and ignore the other one.

The problem with the TM is a problem in the savegame routines of BoB2; which we haven't
yet been able to solve. It needs the attention of a very skilled, diligent and motivated coder
who can root through all the threads which feed in to the savegame, and find why it gets
confused when a new plane is added to the game. It is a major obstacle to a whole range of
mods which we have wanted to do to the game.

Hi PV

Many Thanks for your reply. I will do as you suggest. I am itching to get flying but xmas duty calls!

Good luck with the coding - if I knew anything about computers I would volunteer to help out.

Regards

CA

Hi CA,

There's some pretty useful stuff on this website, if you haven't already seen it.

There should be an easy way to make a batch file which automagically switches the folder names and just have a shortcut to it.

It's been years since I've had to make one, but I'm sure it'd have something like:

if exist c:\games\BoB2 ren c:\games\BOB2 BOB2second; ren C:\Games\BoB2first BoB2

and so on. Probably some "if NOT exist" statements should be thrown in for good measure. You could also plunk in a control file in each install folder (e.g., first.txt, second.txt; they wouldn't require any data, they'd just need to exist) and have the batch file check for their existence, so in case the batch files (or you) gets confused about which install is which, the batch file will be able to check and name each folder correctly. Mayhaps I'll stay up late tonight and try to put one together.

Alternatively, there could be a batch file which just runs .reg files and changes the path in the registry.

P.S. Thank you Brits for all the great music we stole from you for most of our patriotic songs :) I just learned about "Britannia, the Pride of the Ocean" today! (I already know about the deal with "To Anachreon in Heaven")

Hello, Charlie Alpha!

Hope you don't mind me hyjacking your thread with a few newbie questions of my own:

1) Buddye, PappyCain and McMick... I've noted that you list your pc specs in your signatures. How new are your pc's?

2) Is there a thread in the forum where recent pc setups are discussed? (If yes, I missed it.)

3) I'm new to BoBII. I've dabbled in several other sims, but never had time to master any of them to a respectable level.

4) My current desktop pc is a circa 2005 Gateway. It will need to be replaced soon, thus my query about your systems. Any recommendations or warnings you care to offer will be greatly appreciated.

5) I've been infrequently playing with the sim for about two weeks now. I can consistently take off, fly around, and land the Hurricane, but have made a mess on the three times I've flown the spitfire in the landing training mission. I use all of the realistic settings, but have to reduce the processing detail to a very base/min level.

6) I can't get the cockpit controls to work with the mouse; the mouse works great to swivel around for views while in the cockpit (sure beats using the top hat button) so I leave engine management and prop management on auto. I think my mouse problem is more the fault of drivers and old hardware than anything else. Nevertheless, any thoughts here are very much appreciated.

Again, thanks C-A, for letting me ramble here.

Regards, Jugjock

PS - And thanks to the BDG for creating a virtual 1940 where I can join up with other Yanks like Billy Fiske and try to measure up in 601 Squadron.

Hi Jugjock, welcome! I think the site has a bit of time delay on first posts
to cut down on spam, not sure how it's implemented, but seems you have
made it through, anyway.

(Q1, my current machine is 1 1/2 yrs old, and was built around a monster
i7-960 8 core cpu which I received as a gift. The MB, RAM, and vidcard
are a couple of notches below bleeding edge for the time, with a power
supply with plenty of headroom (~700W), that being my standard strategy
for critical parts, and the rest of the machine somewhere in the upper
middle of the road, or casual gamer region.)

Q2, there is no specific thread, but we often field questions about gear, and
here's a recent thread over on the BoB2 tech forum:
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=29954

Q5, yes the hurri is definitely more forgiving than the spit, but for landing
the 109 is even worse, so you may never get to completely relax in that one
(as was the case historically, with a high rate of landing damage). I find
take offs in the spit still a challenge if I'm out of practice. There are tutorial
vids posted on youtube which help quite a bit. Check this thread in the FAQ
subforum: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=19723&p=151015#p151015

Hi Jugjock, welcome to BOBII and the BOBII forums and community.

Read over the Sticky threads on the General and Technical Forums. Also look at the Q & A forum. These will give you game setup, game play, and hints info.

Also the User Manual is very useful and the best of any flight Sim. You will ned to review Appendix A (BDG.txt options) and the Appendix H (Key descriptions) to full understand how to use all the many features, options and key controls implemented in BOBII.
