RAF campaign...is this normal?

Post by 33lima3 »

'This' being the results described at the end of this mission report:

https://combatace.com/forums/topic/9287 ... ent=750481

Specifically, what I find unsatisfactory and/or odd is that three days into the RAF campaign and accepting the campaign AI's directives and what patrols or scrambles it flies to achieve them, said in the manual to be not hopeless if not optimal:

- I know on the 11th we were warned of more escorts, but on 12 July convoy Egg was attacked near Felixtowe by what 242 Sqn's squadron diary says was 108 Me109s, 72 Me110s, and 30 Stukas - that's an awful lot of 109s seen covering a single raid so early in the battle.

- perhaps in consequence, 242 lost 10 aircraft and 9 pilots in a single combat, and 249, one of c.3 squadrons involved in the same fight, also got pretty well wiped out - that's wildly high loss rates even with such a lot of snappers;

- similarly, the 'Review' report for c.mid-day, 12 July shows the RAF losses over the three days as 64 Spits and 70 Hurricanes, against a claim of 5 109s, 5 110s and 17 bombers, so whatever is happening it didn't just start on 12 July - at this rate they'll be 'marching up Whitehall' in a matter of days;

- combat reports for two different RAF squadrons for 10 and 11 July show 'ENEMY casualties' as being 3/0 and 1/0 SPITFIRES, not a type flown by the Luftwaffe; and

- my campaign map has a large, odd white rectangle, not apparently used for anything and absent on other screenshots of this, combined with the rows of icons being on two lines, as seen on the second pic from the very top of that linked thread, and in its last pic.

I have a clean install of the Shockwave 'limited edition' BoB2 CD, with 2.13 and multiskin on top of that, in Win 7. Only possible sins I'm conscious of is copying across my BDG.txt from a similar install on my Win 10 drive, starting the RAF campaign then starting a new one without doing anything re the nold one, not following manual advice on naming conventions on savegames, and being indiscriminate in whether I reloaded BoB or Savegame which I did every time I returned to a campaign.

I've messed something up somewhere, but even if I go with deleting campaign files or even a complete uninstall-re-install, I'm liable to do it again unless I understand what I did wrong.

Any suggestions welcome!!!
