Set the ADI correctly before take off

Post by Simicro »

Hi,

Please watch the picture below showing the ADI at Cold and Dark startup.

Can you confirm that the "red wings and red dot" (I miss the right words) must be set to be aligned with the horizon (white line = red dashed dots)?

Not exactly.

The "Airplane Symbol" (Red lines and red dot) must be aligned with the "horizon line" (white horizontal line) when the aircraft pitch is level with the horizon (longitudinal axis parallel with horizon).
When a Cessna 172 is resting on it's landing gear, it is actually pointed upward very slightly (perhaps only 1 degree). As such, you could probably manage to place the airplane symbol just above the horizon line, with the two touching... that would probably be appropriate and only require fine adjustment while in level flight.

Hello flapman!

Thanks for jumping once again in one of my thread.

What I understand is that the general rule/principle is as I said and there are some subtle exceptions like you explained. I got it.

I learned something thank to you today. Thanks!
