Trottle/speed/taxi problem

Post by theo »

Hii
I have just upgraded from FSX to Prepared version 4, and bourght the A2A Cherokee.
When I try to taxi I add a little power to get momentum, but when the aircraft start to roll the speed gets higt VERY fast and when I idle the power, the aircraft keeps gaining speed for a while before it slowly slows down.
I have tryed to load one of the default aircrafts and I have no problem taxing ex the Commander 114 and I have NO problems whith the trottle to taxi that plane.
I have run the UPDATER and it says that the Cherokee is up to date.
I have set the sliders as requered in the generel troubbleshooting post here on the forum.

Is it a known problem?
Anybody who knows what to do?

Thanks in advance :-)
Regards
Theo

Hi Theo and welcome to the A2A forums.

You should find it pretty easy to control the taxi speed in the Cherokee so it's possible there's an issue with your controls or P3D setup elsewhere.

The first thing I'd recommend is that you test with default scenery rather than at an add-on airport, especially one that has an unpaved runway.

Also, when you move your hardware throttle does the throttle in the virtual cockpit move as expected? For example, if you check using the tooltip, is it moving smoothly from 0% to 100%?

Finally, are you using any utilities such as FSUIPC5 which may be relevant to the issue?

Thanks,
Nick

Thanks Nick :D
I´m not using FSUIPC5 and YES the trottle in VC moves as expected.
And when I taxi with default aircraft, there is NO problem. Only with the A2a Cherokee.

Thanks Theo,

What sort of power settings are you using when taxiing?

In fact, could you try to quantify the behaviour you're seeing? For example, load the Cherokee to a total weight of 2,000 lbs, mixture full rich, open the throttle to 25% and let us know what speed you've accelerated to after 30 seconds and/or 60 seconds on a paved runway at sea level?

Cheers,
Nick

Hii again

Now I have made the test with a total weight of 2,000 lbs, mixture full rich, throttle to 25% on a paved runway at sea level.
Result:
After 30 seconds: 8kts
After 60 seconds 14 kts.
That seems good I gues?

But I have attached a little video that explains the problem.
I give good trottle for less than a second, and then idle.
The aircraft accelerates at idle up to 50 kts.
Hope that explains the problem?

Hi Theo,

Thanks for the additional info and posting that video.

I tried to replicate the behaviour, and although I couldn't get acceleration that extreme from such a short 'blip' to full throttle and back, there was occasionally a surge of acceleration similar to that shown.

My guess would be that the Accu-Sim code isn't properly able to respond to such a fast movement of the throttle through its full range and back to idle (something that you wouldn't do in the real aircraft). If you make more realistic (i.e. smooth and gradual) throttle inputs when taxiing, does the aircraft behave as expected?

In any case, I'll ask Scott to take a look at your video too.

Thanks,
Nick

Theo,

I'll test this but I think I know what is going on here, and we're planning an update shortly that will fix this issue along with more rapid response from the engine. We'll keep you posted.

Scott,

Would this be a core update or specific to the 180? I've always felt there was a teeny bit of lag in the throttle response across all the aircraft.
