Patch 1.1 work in progress

Post by lucas »

Hi,

just want to let you know that Stephen and me are working on the 1.1 patch for Avro. There are couple of things which have been completed and some which need some attention.
You will be able to enable crew models when sitting in the cockpit, like when you are piloting from the forward seat, you can turn on the instructor's model and vice versa. Glass got new material with different shine and I applied some oil splatters on the windscreens. Rotary engines were using castor oil which was causing lots of splatters during the flight. You will also get fuel gauges (front one and optional rear one mounted to the panel). Finally, we are going to tweak contact points and compression animations which are not working as the should.

You betcha. I've been reading a number of WWI flying books and most reference the castor oil issue, (ahem) regularly.

..followed by "Aww sh**!!* ;)

Considering the rotaries (and other engines of the time) had a total loss system for lubrication with castor oil (fed by a separate tank, as castor oil does not mix with fuel) you had about a liter of oil sprayed from the engine per hour. The horseshoe shaped cowling was much less for aerodynamics, but for keeping the spray away from the pilot. So you had to watch your fuel tank as well as your oil tank. Either one runs dry, you're in a glider.

In (much) older movies (like "Dawn Patrol") you see pilots (Errol Flynn, David Niven etc.) having a black face most of the time they are wearing their flying gear. In recent movies (like "Flyboys") this is just forgotten and not seen anymore.

Just a small heads up - Stephen and I finished working on the update. We are going to make a pack which will tested by the Beta team.
