In terms of hardware, it's what you're using as flight controllers which may be significant here. For example, what sort of joystick, rudder pedals etc?

You should also do the same kind of basic checks in the simulator that you'd do in real life. Move your controller(s) such as yoke and rudder pedals through their full range and check for free and full movement of the corresponding control surfaces. (i.e. check that ailerons, elevator and rudder move in the correct direction and return to centre when the controls are released.)
