prop pull through

Post by guard2017a »

Hi all I just bought the AT6Texan. According to the start checklist I have to pull the prop through. Can someone tell me how to do that will be most appreciative. Thank you in advance.

It's in the shift+3 menu, bottom of the center row, and says HAND PROP.

If you are not familiar with radial engines just be aware this isn't to start the engine, it's to clear the lower cylinders of any oil that might have drained down. It avoids vapor lock.
Naturally if you ARE familiar with this, just disregard this post.

Sorry. I have vapor lock on the brain. The correct term is as you have correctly said, Hydraulic Lock. More correctly, pulling the prop through is a CHECK for an oil lock in the lower cylinders. If resistance is felt you can then drain the cylinders before starting the engine which is much better than bending a connecting rod. THAT can get expensive !
