Engine issues since new update and not flying for a while.

Post by Dreamsofwings »

Seeing a very strange issue in the T-6 that with my limited brain power I am unable to resolve!
Using checklist for this.
I haven't flown her in a while so on first loading up when I ran the 'hand prop' it locked after a couple of turns. I put the oil kit in and after a short wait, topping up on everything again, I was able to hand prop. Engine started quite well and I was able to taxi to run up area. On run up as soon as I increased power and started doing my prop checks I began to lose power. Could actually watch the manifold pressure begin to dwindle away. Oil pressure was also low.
Got a tow off the active runway by some very amused spectators.
Started troubleshooting, changed plugs, changed oil.
Now the aircraft just did not want to start and when it did, I started to lose power rapidly to the point where it was stuck in a low idle, never cut out, just sitting there ticking over and no throttle response whatsover.
After this I couldn't get it to start for love nor money. Nothing reported in maintainance hanger.
Cycled an auto start (which started beautifully)
Went back to cold and start and same issue again.
Decided to bite the bullet since I had been away from the aircraft for 4 months or so and overhaul the engine (thinking if I had left the oil kit in I might not have to!).
SO brand new engine...........starts on second attempt with a hearty roar. Let her warm up and then taxi to run up.
Problem repeats..........as soon as revs increased to 2000rpm the engine starts to lose power and reverts back to the low idle and going nowhere state.
I am baffled and not sure if this is a technical issue as I have not seen this before, or something else. Any clues?

Ok I have identified it.
Summer season but custom weather setup
Raining but not flying in cloud
OAT of 9c
Dewpoint of 7c
....carb icing :)

:) because I LOVE how accurate accu-sim is and I LOVE it when it kicks you in the backside once in a while.
