I started out with the 550. I'll decide which I'm sticking with in a week or so.

I started with the 520 to take it easy at first, until I get to learn the aircraft.

550, baby. Go big or go home! Or rather, since I'm ferrying from KBEC at the moment, go big and get home faster!

Re: Poll - what engine are you flying with?
I started with the "smaller" engine, but this was at 2.30am last night so not much time to fly. I had no end of trouble installing, thanks to my antivirus, but it's sorted now.
I have to say that performance even on the smaller engine is terrific. With the power set at 23 inches MAP, and 2,200rpm leaned for power at 5,000ft, the plane's speed was at the bottom of the yellow arc. Then I tried a stall and let the spin develop just to see what happens. One "doctor" less in the virtual world Best not tried again....
Cheers,
Mike

Re: Poll - what engine are you flying with?
I’m practicing on the smaller engine until I feel I’ve mastered this bad boy. Just completed an hour and a half flight over the mountains and was all over the place with the winds and updrafts/downdrafts. This is like learning all over again. Hopefully mastering this plane will help in the real world. [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]. Loving it.

I went for the smaller engine to start, just while I get used to the plane. Might upgrade at a later date
Re: Poll - what engine are you flying with?
Starting with IO-520 but at some point going to the IO-550 for the simple reason I think it is a better engine (based on limited real life experience on limited number of individual engines used in entirely different ways )

Re: Poll - what engine are you flying with?
I just had to go with the IO-550 for muscle. But once I familiar with the aircraft I might deicht to the IO-520 for comparison. Which makes me wonder: are all the properties like compression and failures or wear carried from one engine to the other?
Happy flying
