Gentlemen,

I have installed BOB2 up through the 2.11 patch and added the multiskin patch. I have a newer computor with lots of memory on the motherboard and 2 Nvidia 470s in SLI. I can access the game and it runs, but after a period of time (usually the second mission of the session) in the campaign, I get this error in the and it exits 3d - "Battle of Britain Text has stopped working" followed by a crash. I have done the vista fix, etc with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

System specs: Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, build 6002), Bios - Phoenix AwardBios v 6.00 PG, Processor: Intel (R) Core 2 quad CPU @2.40 GHz (4CPUs), 2032 RAM, Page file 1260MB used, 3571MB available, Direct X11 (I did install the updated 9.0C), 2(SLI) Geoforce 470 GTX total 2143 MB (driver is 8.17.0012.6099, sound card is creative SBX-Fi driver is 6.00.0001.1347

Hi poerr, welcome to BOBII and the BOBII forum and community. Where you posted is fine and I had no problem finding it. We will try our best to get you running. Thanks for the PC data. You PC should run BOBII but it may slow a bit on the really large missions (BOBII is Processor bound) so you might need to cut back on some options. Review this thead:

Sorry for the problem. You said, "I have installed BOB2 up through the 2.11 patch and added the multiskin patch". Did you really mean you installed other patches? All you need is (1) the game cd, the 2.11 update, and the 2.11 Multi Skin (optional). Did you install anything else? Did you have an old install of BOBII?

Can you run many missions in Instant Action without a CTD (by the the English Text is a catch all for any and all problems with BOBII so it is not specific and different)? Try running only a few Instant Action Missions and see if you have a CTD (example run 4 Dog Fight 1 on 1 missions). If you only ctd in the campaign then try to start a new campaign as you might have a bad savegame file causing the CTD.

Thanks for the welcome and for the various items to check. I will start that right away. The detail I can offer right now is that this crash occurs in the campaign from either side and it is not immediate. Usually its the second or so mission you fly and it is proceeded by a temporary stutter in the graphics and then a freeze followed by a dump from the program with the text error message popping up.

When I said up through 2.11 I meant I completely removed the last version of the game and the residual files from the last install, ran cc cleaner, installed clean, and then applied 2.11 followed by the multiskin patch. Does that help and did I miss something?

Vista fix was done, but I could not set the administrator priveleges. If I right click I can run as administrator at start up, so will try that. As for the monitor - if I allow the program to default to desktop size - it goes to 1024 x 768, while my desktop is set to 1920 X 1200 for widescreen. I have to manually select the proper resolution if I want to use the native resolution of my widescreen monitor. Running the other tests now.

Yes, your install sounds perfect.

You are also setting the resolution correctly. Here are the instruction for your monitor (just as a final check but sounds like you did it correctly):

First, set you "windows" resolution (in windows) to your monitors native resolution.

Second, because you have a Wide Screen Monitor try in game setting of resolution:

Set in options->GFX use Windows Desktop Resolution (Recommended)=OFF

Then manually select the resolution (in game) as close as possible to your monitors native resolution from the pull down list of resolution options.



You should be able to set to adminstrator. Windows Vista and Window 7 users. All Vista and Windows 7 users will need to apply the 'Vista/Windows 7 fix' to your desktop shortcut as a fresh 2.11 install will overwrite the previous shortcut.

"Right click on shortcut and go to properties. Go to the compatibility tab. Check "disable desktop composition" and check the privilege level, run this program as an administrator."

What is the problem?

Here is the Microsoft DirectX Web installer. It will only update what is needed to bring you up to the latest DirectX 9c:

Ran the 1:1 mission twice no problem. Ran a squadron to squadron mission no problem. Ran a bomber intercept no problem. Ran historic - end of the defiant mission and crashed with a runtime error (no detail) leading to the text error described previously.

The resolution was set spot on to your directions. I was doing that before and just did it now, no impact. Further, the properties are set correctly in the shortcut, but the option to run as administrator is not able to be checked, however, I can run the program as administrator by right clicking on the shortcut and selecting run as administrator in the drop down menu.

Instant missions seem to be running fine. On the campaign, the third mission flown on the RAF side (on second day) crashed with a vertex buffer creation error. Same text error showed up as in original post. Here is the log.

If instant action missions are running OK , then you may have a "bad" savegame file in your campaign. The bad data in the savegame file will just will keep crashing.

Try to start a new campaign and let me know how you do.

BTW, you should always delete the crashlog file so if you get a new one the crashlog will be new.

Ok, will do. Just for kicks I used your exe from the other post and set the program to run compatible with XP - ran three missions in a new campaign and no crash. Will keep testing and let you know how I do.

The EXE I provided reflects the current status of the 2.12 and I have been testing and running it for months but it has not through the BDG's testing in the Beta forum as yet.

It should be OK for your use and it is the same code that I am running todate.

You are crashing in kernel32.dll which is a windows program so I have no code to look at or change. This kind of CTD in a windows program is almost impossible for me to work on as I really get no information from the crashlog.

The Date on the crashlog is the date that I did the C++ EXE build so it looks like you are running with the new EXE.
