Hi, I'm new to BOB2 and have had some issues getting the sim to run properly on my setup. I've only tried the basic training, takeoff instant mission.

I run a dual widescreen display (2x 1680x1050) setup and had problems finding a 3D resolution that would work properly. I've tried to run BOB2 with or without compatibility mode for Windows XP (SP3), seems the video show when selecting mission only works with BOB2 in compatibility mode. After much fiddling with the 3D resolution settings (I got 1024x768 to usually work), I found the solution to getting the 3D resolution. I had to disable one of the monitors. Is this a know error or am I just being a n00b and doing everything wrong?

After I got the 3D setting to work properly and finally saw my glorious Spitfire properly for the first time, I performed a reasonable takeoff and shortly after takeoff Windows informed me that BOB2 had crashed. I repeated this a few times with the same result, the tower was a bit more pleased with my skills, but the game still crashed after about a minute. I tried searching the forums, but could not find anything that matched my problem. (Keep in mind my wife tells me I'm horrible at finding things in the cupboards, and I tend to agree...) Is there anyone with tips so I can get BOB2 to reliably run under Windows 7 64-bit? I'd be more than happy to post log files and the like, just tell me what you need to know and how I can find out.

Best regards

Hi and welcome to BOBII and the BOBII forums and community. I run Windows 7 64 bit but I only run one monitor so I have no experience with dual monitors.

What is your video card and much memory is on your video card?

Check these links:

We made a decision to default the Bdg.txt parameter "LANDSCAPE_TEXTURE_SIZE " to 2024 as it is our new high res landscape textues. We wanted players to enjoy the new textures and we only had one active Beta tester who was having the CTD. Our logic was that most players today would be OK on the new settings.

If you experience a CTD, shortly after entering 3D , and your PC is older (single core) with an older video card then please try the following Bdg.txt setting:

LANDSCAPE_TEXTURE_SIZE = 1024

With an i7 and a GTX480 with 1536MB RAM, you should be having no problems coping with any aspect of BoB2 hardware challenges.
Regarding the screen display, you may benefit from playing with the GUI setting "Use desktop resolution" - try both settings and see if either helps.
If we solve getting the image across 2 monitors, you may find the BDG.txt variable
ALLOW_ULTRA_HIGH_FOVS=ON to be useful, it will reduce stretching across the wide aspect ratio.

Yes, but the general consensus is that other things seem to fail in that mode, so you are best to just install and run directly in W7. you won't miss the videos after the 10th time you've seen them...

The crashing after takeoff is most likely due to using compatibility mode; at least, that has been the experience of a couple of users recently ("crashes within a couple of minutes"). Try running without it as a first adjustment and let us know how you get on.

Buddye: My graphics card is a Zotac GTX 480 AMP! with 1536 MB RAM.

I've disabled the compatibility mode and continued to have just one display enabled.
This seems to help, I still get the occasional crash, but it's a big improvement.
Thanks a lot, let me know if you would like debug data.

If anyone has tips/tricks to get BOB to work with dual displays I'd be grateful.

Regards

We have very few CTD in BOBII that I am tracking and working except for the PC/OS specific configuration problems we have been working so after you get tuned up you should not have CTD, IMHO.

Do you have the latest DirectX 9c?

See this link and update if your is old:

Off the top of my head, I can not remember a regular BOBII player or beta tester who runs dual displays.

Let me know if you have any need for testing on dual display setups, I'd be happy to help.

Buddye,

I have run two monitors for years. Originally both 4/3, 19 inch monitors. Since changing to ATI 5870 card. I now use three monitors. One 16/9 and two 4/3's. Soon to be replaced by 16/9's.

I have never had any problems with the two, or the three monitors interfering with BobII, apart from one time when I forgot to set my default screen resolution (1920X1080), after doing a reinstall. Obviously, BobII will only run on one monitor. I have not yet tried to run it with ATI's ifinity.

I am a bit confused on how far JubaJuba has got with his setup. But if any more information is required I will try to help.
