Are you running the 2.11 update? You can get it here just download the 2.11 English. The multiSkin is optional but your PC should be able to run it.

Assuming you are running the 2.11 update check this first (these are the notes in the 2.11 release):

Note1: this update will bring *any* previous version up to 2.11. You do not need any previous patches at all.

Note2: You will need the latest DirectX to run 2.11.
You will get a missing .dll error if you do not. When you run the 2.11 self-installer it will point you to the Microsoft DirectX update page. Update to DirectX9.0c (June version). Unfortunately, there are multiple versions of 9.0c so if in any doubt, update.

Note3: The MultiSkin patch should go ON TOP OF Battle of Britain 2: Wings of Victory v2.11 Patch (English) OR Battle of Britain 2: Wings of Victory v2.11 Patch (International)
You should have a 256M gfx card to be sure to run without issues.

Note4: How to back up your existing settings from earlier BoBII updates.
Buddye's installation guide HERE-> http://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/vie ... 0&t=19368B
Back up your Bdg.txt and \savegame, \2dGauge, and \keyboard folders (these folders contain all your settings and joystick buttons)

Note5: If you have a low end system and experience a crash once into 3D, go to your bdg.txt file and set LANDSCAPE_TEXTURE_SIZE = 1024 (the default is 2048). This will reduce the landscape texture resolution by a factor of 4 and should help users with low system memory.

Note6: Windows Vista and Window 7 users. All Vista and Windows 7 users will need to apply the 'Vista/Windows 7 fix' to your desktop shortcut as a fresh 2.11 install will overwrite the previous shortcut.
Right click on shortcut and go to properties. Go to the compatibility tab. Check "disable desktop composition" and check the privilege level, run this program as an administrator.

Note7: Forcing VSync with ATI card
There is a known issue with the latest ATI cards and VSync. See http://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/vie ... 10&t=21660
In short, you need to right click your ATI tray icon and enable through that (Wait for vertical refresh->Always on).

Note8: Framerates over densely populated areas of 3D objects
See the section later in this thread. Object rendering is not as efficient as we hope to make it in the future. Be prepared to check your Ground Object Density settings in densely populated urban areas. See below

Did you implement Note #6?

Is you DirectX 9c update to the latest? If unsure run the Microsoft Web installer here(it will update only what is needed):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

If you are running a wide screen monitor check this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=12695

Look into the BOBII folder and find the crashlog file. Open the crashlog file and cut and paste the first 20 lines into this thread for me to review.

The crashlog shows you are crashing in KERNELBASE.dll which is a Windows program and I do not of course have the Windows source code.

Check out all the other items in my post to ensure you are set up correctly.

Does it crash trying to do a simple Instant Action Mission?

What virus software do you run?

Most all the setup information is in the "Sticky Threads" on the BOBII Technical forum.

I haven't tried a campaign yet - but yes, it is crashing in instant action missions. I've tried No.6 on my shortcut - will report back later to see if it makes a difference. I'm running Avast anti virus.

Does it crash right away after the mission starts or after the mission has run awhile.

Is you DirectX up to date?

Do you run a wide screen monotor?

I'm running Dx 10 and yes I am using a widescreen monitor. Not sure about how long it takes to crash, I'll report back later.
First, set you "windows" resolution (in windows) to your monitors native resolution.

Second, because you have a Wide Screen Monitor try in game setting of resolution:

Set in options->GFX use Windows Desktop Resolution (Recommended)=OFF

Then manually select the resolution (in game) as close as possible to your monitors native resolution from the pull down list of resolution options.
I did all that. :)

You will need to update to the latest Directx 9c. Here is Microsoft's webinstaller:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

BoBII does not use DirectX10 and you have a old copy of DirectX 9c (same as we all had when we got windows 7).

If I do that, won't Dx 10 be overwritten? That'll cause issues with my other games.

each of dx9, 10, and 11 are completely independent of each other.
(Dammit, we don't keep constantly saying you need an up to date
version of DX9c for nothing. If we meant, "unless you
have DX10 or DX11", we would say that.)

The link again is

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/d ... laylang=en

but I think you get this with the 2.11 patch? so check that 2.11 is on ok.

I tried updating Dx 9.c and the installer said it's already found the latest version.

Strange you would be up to dtae on DirectX 9c unless you had already updated it since your Windows 7.

Anyway, lets review.

Your applied the wide screen monitor fix.

You applied the Windows 7 change (release note # 6)

You run avast virus.

Your DirectX 9c is up to date.

Is this correct and have you review to ensure they are done?

So try thr instant action Turkey shoot mission. Do you still crash?

Yep, still crashing with Instant action missions. I might try running under Win XP to see if it works there - it was fine last time I had the game, that was before Win 7.

Windows 7 is fine as we have 1000's of players using it.

You have something wrong that I ask you to review or your install is bad.

Review all the "sticky" threads on this forum and double check that you have done all the fixes.

As a last suggestion, try a fresh reinstall by carefully following these instructions and after the install check that all fixes are completed Note this will ensure that your game install is the same as mine:

Each Step is Important

1. download the 2.11 self installer (redo the download just in case your previous download was bad)
2. Uninstall old version or BoBII
3. Delete all files from the BoBII folder (IMPORTANT -leave none). These old files left by the uninstaller can cause issues with the new EXE.]
4. Run a registry cleaner (like CC cleaner - a free program) IMPORTANT as you had an old install of BobII
5. Reinstall BoBII game CD or Download version
6. Run (execute) the 2.11 Update you downloaded (first) and then the Multiskin self- installers (NOTE: MustiSkin is optional ,only 2.11 and MultiSkin)
