I just reinstalled BOB2 on my new laptop. It installed with the 2.06 patch and I tried starting the game but when I got it running I saw weird graphical glitches with triangles and blocks all over the screen. They flicker and flash and change as I pan the view around. It happens inside and outside the cockpit. I've patched it to 2.11 but the problem persists. I've tried the Windows 7 trick of disabling desktop comp but that doesn't work either. I hope I don't have an on-board graphics card because I hear BOB2 isn't compatible with them.

Here are some screens (insert image isn't working)

Sorry but you do "not" have a external vidio card on your laptop. BOBII requires a gamer's DirectX 9c external video card. We have never gotten BOBII to run on a internal onboard chip video capability like your laptop (Chip type: Intel(R) HD Graphics (Core i3)) without having problems with CTD or graphic issues.

There is no such thing as a non-integrated (= not on board) vid card in a laptop - they are just too small for separate cards. However, very high-end laptops which
use ATI or nVidia chipsets for graphics can run BoB2. We have, however, never seen BoB run on a machine with Intel graphics, of any kind,
laptop or desktop.

Dear SupermarineSpit,
I believe I can offer you some help for your graphics problems based on my own recent experience, since my desktop PC has a set-up quite similar to yours (see below), including the dreaded "on-board" Intel (HD) Graphics. When Buddye and PV told you that you wouldn't be able to play BoB2 on your system I think they must have meant with the options on full, since I am currently playing it on said desktop at what is for me a very enjoyable level.

I too suffered frustrating glitches similar to the ones you describe, and was ready to pack the game away till my next (sigh!) computer. Then last month I saw on a Windows list of available updates one from Intel for the graphics in question. After I downloaded and installed it the transformation was amazing. That damned spitfire could finally take off without any trouble, and even fly historic missions with dozens of planes in the air! No CTD, no unwatchable mess! (Sorry if this is starting to sound like a detergent commercial.) The download (about 80Mb) consists of an improved graphics accelerator driver (version no.15.21.10.64.2291), and is described as being the appropriate one for Windows 7 64bit systems with Intel Core-i processors. Here is a link to the relevant page at the Intel downloads center:(WARNING! Be sure to read the warnings on the page under "Usage" concerning possible incompatibility with some manufacturers' systems before you proceed with installation!)

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3231&DwnldID=19809&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Desktop+graphics+controllers&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics&lang=eng

I probably should point out that I am running BoB2 version 2.07, with the flight options set on "auto". I don't know if that makes any difference, or if it would work the same with 2.11. As far as options are concerned generally, I started out following Buddye's "last hope" suggestion of everything low-low-low. After some tinkering so far I have found I can get away with weather, particle density and horizon set on "medium". I think perhaps hi-res landscape tiles and "high" water will remain too much as regular settings, but I intend to keep testing the limits. One day as an experiment I tried it with everything set to maximum. I managed to get airborne okay and make it to the scene of battle without any graphic catastrophes, aside from some frame-skipping and a curious slow-motion heaviness in turning. After taking unsuccessful potshots for a couple of minutes I made a close approach to a small group of 109s and the screen then froze permanently.

Good luck with the update, from one S.S. to another. Please post the results here. Just to prove I'm not imagining things and it really does work, I have attached a screenshot.

By the way, this is my first post. Thankyou to all the hard-working modders at BDG. Jolly good show, chaps!

Wow thanks ShadowShooter!!! I was so distraught when I heard the news I uninstalled the entire game. I'll have to reinstall and try it again, I'll post some updates soon. :D

Hi ShadowShooter,

Thanks for the post. This is good news for Players who have on-board Intel graphic capability. This is the first I have heard of a PC with on-board Intel garahic running BOBII with out graphic problems or CTD.

Have you tried 2.09? BOBII 2.09 has the enhanced AI without the landscap performance impact?

:x I get an error message saying "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from from the computer manufacturer". I went to the Toshiba website http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=2846923&rpn=PSC12U&modelFilter=&selCategory=2756709&selFamily=1073768663to try and find my graphics driver but I couldn't find one. :(

I suspect you could ignore that. At least, the download proclaims it's good for W7 64bit home premium, i3 mobile, and HD graphics, which is exactly what you've got. You could also try the "Identifying your Intel® graphics controller " link on that page, which takes you to a page with a driver update utility, which claims it will fetch the appropriate driver update if run on your machine.

Thanks PV, but I actually don't think this will work for me at all.

I tried using the "Identifying your Intel Graphics Controller" page and it analyzed my computer and came back with this:

Product Detected Intel® HD Graphics
Current Driver Installed 8.15.10.2086
A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.

Since apparently I have a "customized" driver on my computer I don't think installing a generic graphics driver will work. I can't get past the error message I posted anyways.

Its a shame this doesn't seem to work for me but I'm confident that others with this problem might be able to find a solution through the graphics driver that ShadowShooter posted. Cheers

Dear SupermarineSpit,
I am very sorry to hear that it didn't work for you. As they say, an experiment isn't a success till the results can be duplicated by others. My PC is a no-brand model assembled by a local computer store, which might explain why it didn't have any trouble accepting the generic driver from Intel.

You're probably feeling sick of the whole subject by now, and I wouldn't blame you. But it might be worth a try sending e-mails to the support departments of Intel and Toshiba describing your problem very specifically. It costs nothing to ask, and hopefully you'll be answered by human beings.

My status as sole inhabitant of the netherworld of "Intel(HD)-BoBII" isn't entirely comfortable. A slight suspicion of madness lingers in the air.
"Yes, Queen Isabella, the world is round, and on-board graphics can work!"

Good luck. You never know what may turn up.

Steppping one page deeper into that site, Intel says,
"If this online utility displays a message that a customized computer manufacturer
graphics driver is detected, click here for additional information."

which leads to:

"Solution
To resolve this error, download and install the appropriate graphics driver from your computer
manufacturer. Your computer manufacturer recommends the Intel graphics drivers they have
customized and validated for your specific computer model."

However, if your are unsatisfied with this, it goes on:

"Work-around
If you choose not to use your computer manufacturer's validated graphics driver,
you can install Intel's generic graphics driver. However, if you encounter problems
using the generic driver, Intel recommends reinstalling your computer manufacturer's
validated driver.

Use the Windows* "Have Disk/Known File" method for updating a driver...."

So, it may be you have nothing to lose - worst case is it doesn't work, then you have
to boot into safe mode, flush the Intel driver and run an install of the old Toshiba driver.

The 15.10.2086 driver you have now is the latest from Toshiba , posted dated June 21 2010 at
the Toshiba site, but file date is March 3 2010. It may be it takes 3 months for the Intel
driver updates to be filtered through Toshiba to appear for download (err, unless they're
done in northern Japan, in which case it may take a lot longer for this update...)
