Hi All,

Hoping for some help, as I have done some searching through the posts and found people with a similar problem. I have loaded the new 2.10 version to an existing install on my Toshiba Qosmio laptop (running Vista) and found that I am unable to see any of the key map settings. They are invisible except for the numbers 0-9 displayed for the first set of rot functions in the first key mapping screen. Changing them and saving them does not seem to work as you can't see the new changes and the buttons on the joystick do not follow the changes made anyway. I can play the game using interactive cockpit (better than using the keys). Trouble is I am going to get a Logitech G940 setup soon, and will want to change the key mapping. Here's what I have done so far to try and sort it:
1. Uninstalled and deleted all save game and BoB files to start again from scratch. This did not sort it, and I did this a few times. It appears that the problem is before installing the 2.10 patch, as I also tried this straight after installing from the CD and before installing the new 2.10 update.
2. Changed the Vista settings as recommended in the A2A posts for the Bob icon properties on the desktop. (Running it in XP mode etc)
3. Disconnected the joystick to make sure it isn't the joystick throwing it out. From scratch without plugging in the stick there are still no key mapping designations visible in the right hand column.
4. I know how to make and save key mapping changes properly as I have been a BoB fan for about 4-5 years.

I have installed the same version from my installation CD to my desktop computer and it displays all key mapping as it should, with no dramas changing button designations on the same joystick. I have installed the earlier version straight from the disk to an earlier Toshiba Satellite (XP) laptop also and did not have this problem.
I see one guy had the exact same problem with a Hewlett Packard computer and put up some screen images so that you could see what it was doing. Has anyone ever resolved this?
I would love to find a solution for this, as other than this pain in the butt, the game is running well and I am getting back into it after getting a bit frustrated with some crashes and glitches that used to ruin the game play in earlier versions. Gotta love a good combat flight sim eh? :D

If you have been running BOBII for 4-5 years, you must understand how to map keys and it sounds as if you have mapped keys on your desktop.

A pic of what you are seeing on the key mapping screen would help us understand what you are seeing but I assume it is just not correct.

Yes, we have had some people who have had a simular issue.

What joystick are you running? Is it a USB interface? Is the joystick drive a Vista driver? Your new joystick may be OK. Is your deskto also Vista OS?

I suspect based on what you have told us that you have a problem with the interface between the joysick driver and your new laptop PC or between the Joystick driver and the Vista OS (just a guess but what else can it be). Are you sure you have the latest Vista Driver for your joystick?

Please review the controls section of the User Manual to refresh yourself on the key mapping procedure but I assume you already understand and have used it many times before.

Sorry for the problem but with all the PC's , joysticks, joystick drivers , and OS these days, it is getting difficult to keep things running correctly.

Have you reviewed these threads:

Same problem here too, Digga, on a Sony Vaio laptop, running Vista. As you say, same installation on my desktop is OK.

I wonder if the lack of a separate Number Pad has anything to do with it - or it may be just the laptop/Vista combination.

I wonder if the firewall/virus software is blocking it on the laptops?

Just a guess (sorry).
