That wail is not the radiator vent. That is the sound of the gun ports. Pull up video of any of the P-51's that don't have the gun ports or they're fared over. You'll never hear the wail.

Actually, it is not the gun ports. The solution to this whistle has not been officially pinned down, however it isn't the gun ports. Scott said in the FSBreak/TeamSpeak event that they tried finding the source and that Mustangs without gun ports, or ones taped over still make this sound.

Fantastic videos guys. A lot of very useful info in them.

I'll own up.....I haven't yet got the '51 package, but will be very shortly as I 'm intending using it for my '51 Cockpit Project. I'm about 75 % through the build and have only recently started to interface controls to a flight sim (Currently using FS2004....yeah, I know...go hide in the corner in shame :-) ) and there is still a long way to go before she's finished.

At the moment, I only have the throttle linked up to the comp as I've still more work to do on the stick and rudder...and the instruments !. I've installed the speakers under the seat....very tight fit... and the noise and vibration from them....I tell you, it's a great feeling to sit in a '51 and advance the loud lever to take off power and I know that installing your '51 package is going to make a step-change in the reality side of things. Its going to be an awesome experience

The one thing that strikes me about these packages you produce is the level of research, preparation and involvement you put into them... and it shows !. You keep up the good work !!

Hi All,

I found some very nice P51 cockpit videos "Kermie-Cam" by Kermit Weeks (Fantasy of Flight, Florida).
This is the first of three P51C flight videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z1Z-WEZZGM)

Cheers,
Airbatic
