What about the DeHavilland Comet...I'm sure that's spelled wrong lol BOAC ordered many of them and they were first of the UK jetliners
114 examples of the de Havilland Comet (DH.106) were built, however the first of these jets, Comet 1, suffered several in-flight disasters caused be fatigue of fuselage metal caused by square windows (this lead to round windows, which sustain pressurization much better). Comet 2's and later were revised and safe jet airliners, however these came later on in jet history. After the disasters of 1954, the Comet fleet was grounded until 1958, in which time the Sud Caravelle, Tupoleve Tu-104, Boeing 367-80, Boeing 707, and Douglas DC-8 had flown; by 1958, the Boeing 707 and Tupolev Tu-104 had entered service. The Avro Canada Jetliner had flown weeks after the Comet 1, in 1949, but it was cancelled, never seeing production.
The Comet saw life later on as an airliner with the Comet 2, 3, and 4, but also as the Hawker Siddeley Nimrod (maritime patrol) in 1967, and most recently the now-cancelled BAE Systems Nimrod MRA4.
