To continue the 7500...
I think the root of the multi-mission obsession with the F-16 is the continuing desire to scrap the A-10. Bear in mind the the A-10 is perhaps the finest purpose-built aircraft ever developed and originated in the same discussion as the F-15. The A-10s were to be withdrawn for service when Iraq invaded Kuwait. The A-10s proved themselves in Desert Storm and the Air Force still wanted to park them.

I'd really like to see an Accu-simmed P-38 because of the unique and interesting flight characteristics.
Odd trivia, the tiny can openers that were included in the cases of c-rats were nicknamed P-38 during WWII because of the perceived speed at which they opened a can. The name stuck and we still called them P-38s 40 years later. That little can opener was one of the few bits of my GI equipment that was reliable.
