Hammer and chisel does it for me.

I used to work in a computer shop and cleaned customers machines as part of the service. You would not believe what we have found inside some of them. We had a compressed air supply and a powered dust trap bench we used. The air supply had a moisture trap and worked great. I always wore a dust mask to be safe because dust carries with it many interesting little bugs and such.

We worked on hundreds of computers and never really used a wrist strap, we just touched a nearby metal shelf once in awhile. I also build my own computers and must admit to cleaning them only once a year or so.

I wanted to amend this post after looking under my desk and seeing a lot of dust. Basically, you can be assured regardless of your fan noise, if you have dust under your desk, your computer needs to be cleaned.

My PC has been quiet and performing well. But this is what I found after cracking it open and removing the fan (4 screws):

Just hovering the vacuum over the fan immediately resulted in this:

Also, don't forget to vacuum out your power supply from the inside, and outside:

You may have to take your video card out as it gets dust as well. Be aware, there is a clip at the forward base of the slot that holds it into place. You will need to push this little clip in to pull the card out. Also, if you remove power cables from your video card, don't forget to put them back in when done.

Again, remember, unplug the power, keep one hand on your power supply while working, don't touch any circuits with anything, also it's a good idea to work on a hard floor, and not a carpet (static electricity).

Scott.

One of the best things you can do for yourself - regarding dust, is invest in a good case!

I used to own an Antec 900. I was cleaning that sucker out all the time.

On my most recent PC build, I invested in a Corsair Obsidian 650D. I've had this system for about 6 months now, and haven't had to clean it once. Still completely clean on the inside. I owe it all to the amazing filtration system, that catches all of the dust in a mesh that just needs to be taken off and smacked a few times.
