Guys,

My first A2A plane was the excellent spitfire and was going to pick up either the 377 or B-17 next.

Now the P51 is released I am torn between the B-17 and the P-51.

I will probably end up getting both at some point but this is my dilema:

The spitfire fills my acrobatic, single seater, epic warplane need but the P51 is the latest and greatest state of the art plane that A2A has released and looks jaw dropping and extremelly involved.

The B-17 looks amazing but its a slightly older generation plane so not as new as the P51 from a product point of view but after seeing the Sally B at Duxford a few weeks ago it would definately be a great addition. Also I love the procedure of setting up a new plane.

Help!!!!

i will of course get Accu-Sim at the same time.

I still fly the B-17 all the time, and she's still my favorite! Although the systems aren't as modern as the P-51's (Accusim systems) it is still a very, very realistic experience, and its unlike anything else in FSX. Although she's heavy, and not a super-fast fighter like the Mustang, the appeal of her lines, the four big radials, and the connection to history are what I really love about it. The Mustang is great, and I have about 6 hours in it now (I've been away from FSX for quite some time, and will be), its a very amaxing airplane, and i see why pilots loved her. The Spitfire is still cool, fast, and beautiful, but after flying the Mustang, the Spit seams 'slow' (relative term). The Mustang can fly a lot higher than the Spitfire, she's faster with equivalent fuel burn, and the simplicity and safety of automated systems is very appealing. I love the Spitfire too, but the Mustang is something one can fly and worry a little less.

If you will buy both eventually, go for the B-17, you won't regret it.

Depends what you like. Personally I prefer the bigger girls, but thats because i'm a WW2 Bomber fan. My fav aircraft is the Lancaster and any thing multi-engined and WW2 will get my vote over the little guys.

..Having said that, I am finding myself spending alot of time in the mustang :?

Oh ignore me I'm naturally Bias

Seriously though, just think of what you like to fly and pick that one. The Stang and B-17 are so different I'm sure you will come to a decision pretty easy

I love the PMDG planes but everytime I get in the Spit and take off from Duxford I have a smile on my face.

I think the B-17 next and then the P51.

It depends on what you like. Me, I love the 17 and would fly her every day if I could. But the P51 is a little more updated and the B17 feels...outdated.

If you only had one, I would say the B17. Easy to fly and a real sweat-heart.

They are two different styles of flying, like Lewis said, you have to ask yourself what you like. The B-17 is large multi engine/multi crew environment with full IFR navigation equipment...albeit period specific.

The P-51 is single seat single pilot in terms of systems managment with basic navigation equipment.

As a PMDG flyer you might be more used to the large multi system/crew aircraft environment. Then again you might like the P-51 to have somthing different.

Either one you pick, you will have the best and won't be disappointed. :D

I went for the B-17.

Wow, what a noise those 4 engines make! I can feel the bass downstairs!

Auto engine start, great take off and into the clouds.....This led onto 3 aborted landings so I decided to take the thing for a long range spin and worry about landing later. :-)

Great add-on, the weatherd cockpit I downloaded looks great.

Thanks,

Chris

Well I'm Spitfire mad! but I wouldn't be without either the P-51 or the B-17.
I can only recomend buy one, give it some time to learn to fly it and when you feel you've got the hang of things treat yourself to the other. All Accu Sim planes have different qualities and challenges you just have to decide which challenge you want to take on.

Happy flights.
M. Jordan.

The B-17 might be older and not as "state of the art" in the AccuSim department, but it has the GUI hangar and parts that wear out, as well as many immersion features that aren't available in the fighters like talking crew and period radio broadcasts. It is a completely unique experience from the other AccuSim aircraft (well, they all are unique but the B-17 certainly has an unmatched personality, content-wise).

The problem I have with the Accusim planes is that I don't have time to fly them all! My B-17 and P-47 have been gathering dust while I've been concentrating soley on Spitfire Mk.I for the last six months; I haven't even begun with the Mk.II planes! You know an addon is immersive when all you accomplish in a half hour of 'flying' is your startup, engine checks, and taxiing to the other side of the runway before the engine overheats--and you've still had fun without ever getting airborne.

Completely agree, 3 attempted landings later with the b-17 and it is certainly a b*gger to get on the ground nicely.

Great add-on and I am sure the P51 will be next when I get my head around things with the big beast.

Good Choice

For your landings, try coming in with no flaps. But, you will have to get your airspeed down so come in a bit lower on final so your not fighting to get her on the ground

Thats what helped me when I first got her :)

Hope this helps
