Don't use the brakes, it is not proper technique and easy to over control with those. In fact there really isn't a need to use the brakes at all unless landing at fields shorter than 2500 feet where you will likely need some braking depending on just how short it is.

Also agree that operating a tailwheel with a twisty stick would probably be a heck of a challenge.

Wise words indeed, Oracle, but I only threw the idea out there due to the OP not having any rudder pedals, unlike real aircraft. A kind of work-around just for the sim..

I have a Saitek twist stick and use it on the P-51 with success. Advancing the throttle slowly during takeoff and keeping the tail in the air during landing works but it takes a lot of practice to get it just right.

The single best investment I ever made in flight sim gear was getting my Saitek rudder pedals many many years ago. Between the toe brake, and the fine rudder control it made a huge difference in my ability to fly. Before that I was using the twist feature on the Saitek X-52, and using the grip button for the brakes. Was very difficult during landing to make the exact motions required to land effectively while twisting the grip to maintain rudder control, and using the hat switch to look around. Granted at that time in my flight sim life I was not using trim at all either, and that makes a big difference now too as far as keeping planes easily controllable for landing.

Sounds like a great plan, you will be landing that T-6 like a pro using them instead of the twist grip.

I've been using a twist stick for so long that it was like learning how to fly all over again when I got pedals. I probably shouldn't jinx it, but my Cyborg Rumble Force has given me 17 trouble free years so far! I feel kind of bad using a twist rudder and single throttle for the Connie, B-17 and 377 but it feels more natural to me after all this time.

I'm also running Thrustmaster pedals. Ninety-two bux through Amazon. They're a tad narrow, relative to real rudder pedals, but then they fit nicely under my computer desk. I've finally got them down for landing in my T-6!
