Oh boy, looks quite sturdy, like a ff yoke i'd say. How much pitch travel ? Would you say that it meets the goals shown on the site ? I might even move away from the honeycomb one :)

Don't know if its the photograph angle, or depth perception, but the yoke housing looks way much larger than the Cessna one.

I'd say it meets the goals listed on the website, yes. Bear in mind that it is pre-production and not the finished article yet!

The exterior case is a temporary, off-the-shelf solution to cover the internals, not purpose-made for this yoke. The finished one will be smaller. I'll let Chris fill in more details including the pitch travel (it was quite generous though) so I don't risk misinforming anybody. I liked how stiff the resistance became towards the ends of the travel range, too.

There was a Honeycomb yoke on the Aerosoft stand, on display. In roll it felt similar but the pitch axis was very stiff indeed. I'm not sure if that's how it is meant to be.

As you can see in the above photo, Joanne from Fulcrum Yokes is enthralled at Lewis' running commentary on his flying skills with the prototype yoke. :P

Seriously though, it is a project with a lot of promise. As Martyn says, the pitch movement is very smooth and has just about the right amount of resistance as it moves to each end of its travel. Roll axis is also good, with full 180 degrees one side to the other. Thumb switches are good, nicely placed but with some very minor adjustments being considered. Ergonomics are first class, and though still a prototype, you could see a commitment to quality design and construction. I'm no expert on yokes, as I've always used a stick and throttle in simming, but Fulcrum prototype seemed right, if you know what I mean.

Also had a go with an early version of the Honeycomb yoke ( it was just sitting there on the Aerosoft stand, unconnected to a sim ) and agree that the pitch movement was very stiff. Early days with that one too, of course.

Since the case will have to share some desk space with my keyboard, it would be nice if the top were flat on the production version so I'd have a place to put my keyboard. :) Can't do that with the CH Products yoke.

uha, my attention too!

in my opinion, having the CH yoke which has plastic sliding on plastic twice, the most important thing will be a metal (may be steel) shaft with two ball sockets. this will eliminate tilt/cant and unnecessary drag. Together with real +/- 16384 resolution this might be a top product :D very welcomed!

Hi guys thanks for the comments and interest. I post on avsim and have a Facebook page with photos and questions and am happy to be messaged too but I consider here my online home so feel free to ask me anything about the yoke here if you don't want or like the other options. I also have direct email from our website which is [email protected].

Paul was great to meet you and chat. Jo says it is a knack she has of always closing her eyes when a camera points at her and wasn't entirely Lewis' fault!
He actually gave some great commentary, wish id filmed him!
More pics on Facebook by the way.
Yes it will retain a flat top as that is where my keyboard sits too!

Check this video out that that was taken and sent to me by Ray Proudfoot who you may know from avsim and other places.

Here is another quick vid showing how its movement maps with the in sim controls of any aircraft or sim.

Yes indeed, that's something to consider. :)

Chris, I believe you intend to shave off an inch here and there from the housing but of course, by necessity, it will still have a substantial footprint. The simple logic of keeping the top flat for the keyboard seems to have escaped many other yoke manufacturers.

By the way, we tried out the yoke and all its thumb switches, but are you considering trigger switches at the front for the forefingers? It's something I forgot to ask at Cosford. :)

Worry not. Not only am I trying to keep the cross section down to a saitek sized hole, from the above video you can see that is also where I keep my keyboard!

Triggers, no, probably not. I did trybwith triggers but it gets very full in a GA yoke when using aviation quality switches and a hat and trim switches. I've tried spring rockers, triggers and round push switches in the front. I wasn't totally convinced and I like the shape of this one, it took a while to get there. See Facebook for evidence, Jo will confirm that! :D
This is inspired by pipers, cessnas, beechcraft (note the switches) and other small GA even though I fitted aileron trim.
I'll leave the triggers to the airliner yoke upgrade once I get this out.

I’ve linked to a video on our Facebook page from a young promising youtuber who was at flightsim2018 and has put together a great set of interviews with developers at the show. We have an interview which starts at 30:25 into the video. It is worth a watch as he covers a good number of devs including dead stick and orbx.

Here is the video in case you don’t use Facebook.
