Best Real World Weather Engines

Post by FireRescue85 »

Hey guys,

I’m looking for a weather engine add on that will be the most accurate. I’ve been using a freeware one for a while, yet the other day it had heavy snow at an wairport when the real world temperature was 50 F

Looking for recommendations for what works best for you!

Thanks,

I currently use ActiveSky P3D, but have used both Opus and REX weather in the past. I like ActiveSky the most so far. For clouds and other visual bits, I use Rex 4 w/Soft Clouds.

I've used Active Sky products since way back when, Evolution I think. Stuck with them through each new offering. When they came out with ASCA textures, I replaced REX Soft Clouds, which was fine, just wanted to simplify. So I can't really give an opinion on the other engines. A2A-HiFi all the way, never been disappointed in either company, product, or service/support.

Another for Active Sky. Been using that for almost a decade. I tried others a while back, but won't change again without a darn good reason.

I had REX for awhile and it was OK. Then I got Active Sky. I haven't looked back since.

Yup, another Active sky user here. Used to use REX weather engine but was enticed by good reputation of ActiveSky plus smooth weather transitions and other features. Made the switch and have not looked back. :)

I have been using windy.com. Its a site that has worldwide weather date for all the relevant weather factors such as wind speed and direction, clouds, barometer, temperature and so forth. A bit of interpolation is required, but it gives me flexibility if I want to do something like use a different wind direction and give myself a tailwind. Then with user defined weather I can input the weather I want. I get close to the actual weather but I have a lot of flexibility. Nothing to buy or download and no extra load on my mid range system.
Ryzen 7 5800X3D liquid cooled, OC to 4.5 ghz, Radeon XFX 6900XT Black edition, 2 tb M2 drive, 32 gb ddr4 ram, Asus Hero Crosshair VIII mother board, and some other stuff I forget exactly what.
