The lever on the panel is pretty self explanatory but I can't get the knack of the using the switch on the side of the throttle. What's the secret?

I generally don't. While it is a cool feature nonetheless, I generally use the CTRL+F3 and F4

Try programing the prop pitch to a up and down button on your joystick, and if you have enough buttons do the flaps, landing gear, fuel boost pump, elevator trim, cooling flaps, wheel brakes. Most anything you need to fly hands on.

I'm using an M$ Sidewinder so I don't have enough buttons to do all that but I did remove a couple of the commands I don't use on the stick  (landing gear and drop ordnance) and reassigned those buttons to incrementally increase and decrease the RPM.

Thanks for the help all.
