Hi all. Not sure how I *just* became aware of A2A and their AccuSimmed B-17, but wow! What a fun bird to fly!

I do have a quick question or 2 though. Actually, they're more questions about FSX than anything.

1) How the devil can I set up FSX so that all engines (and mags, bats, lights, etc.) are Off when a scenario loads up? With the immersive quality of the 17, I much prefer to run through the full start-up routine myself. Besides which, sometimes weird things occur at start-up. For instance, just today, I loaded up a Free Flight with a Fort parked at a hardstand at Thorpe Abbott ... but when the sim spawned, it neglected to have my gear down. End result: 4 destroyed props on engines with only 20hrs!

2) Some of my flights are pretty lengthy, requiring 2 days of "real world" time to complete. Obviously, this requires a save. No problem. BUT ... why does the sim seems to forget everything that was running when I saved the flight? In particular: the C1 is off; mixture controls are back to Auto-Rich; trims are all re-centered; cabin heat is off; oxygen flow is off; the right seat forgot his orders to watch RPMs; and so forth. Quite weird, and a bit nerve wracking while one gets everything reset. Anyway to rectify this?

Anyhow, other than what I assume to be purely FSX issues, all is well in my B.G. (Heavy) of one ship, lol! Just having a high-ho time getting re-acquainted with the old gal (the first time around was years ago with The Mighty Eighth, like a bunch of you guys here I'd imagine.)

Welcome, yes they've done a fantastic job.

That takes me back, I remember that game well - "Sir, we're lost, I haven't a clue where we are!"

Welcome Skydiver79,

Iv heard that by saving your default flight with engines and mags all off. Your standard flights should then always start in that fashion.
I don't bother with that though, I always just press the cold start button on the shift 3 panel. The latest accu-sim aircraft can now start with the cold start automatically, So that should be good for future releases.

As for the aircraft loading with its wheels up. I think you can avoid this by loading you default flight first, if the B17 wasn't the last plane you flew.
Ive left my default flight as default, so for me its the ultralight at Friday harbor. I load that flight, fly around for a couple of seconds, then quit out and load the b17 from the main menu as per usual.
This process seems to reset the code and avoids the silly issues.

If your loading a saved flight. You should load it twice. Load it from the main menu and once your in, load it again from in-game. That way some more features will come through from your saved flight.
I dont think you'll get all your switches as they were, but it does work better this way.

FSX can be a buggy program at times but these steps work for me and I'm still having fun. So see how you go.

Thanks trawny, I shall give those ideas a whirl and see what happens.

Curious: How does one set up for automatic Cold-start? I've RTM, but didn't seem to read about that... Granted, there's *lots* of information to absorb, lol.

Cheers

Actually, it is not really recommended to change your default flight. The standard procedure, at least for the B-17 is to load it up and hit the Cold and Dark button once in the game. From there you can start from a cold scenario going through your checklist. Changing the default flight can actually cause issues with other addons and other Accu-Simmed aircraft.

Unfortunately the automatic cold-start that I mentioned, is currently only available with the three newest aircraft. Spit, P40 and Mustang.
But at least all future releases should have this feature.

If you do want to change the default flight heres how,

1. Load the B17 and hit "Cold and Dark"
2. The the "save flight"
3. GIve it a title, and things like that.
4. Now, hit the little box that says "Default flight"
5. Save.

DefaultEvery time you load a flight, your aircraft will be cold and dark. You do NOT have to load the save to be cold and dark, any free flight.
Hope this helps,
Ty D.

I still would like to reiterate it is not a good idea to change the default flight. It has, and eventually will cause issues with other addons including Accu-Sim birds.

Just asking, what problems dose it make? I always do this and I have never had any problems. Not doubting you I have never had anything happen.
