I moved the panel light for the cowl flap switch panel from the old right side glare wing to the glare shield in preparation to make new glare wings. It is also a bit more realistic looking now with the panel light in this position. I did have to place it higher though as it blocked the view of some gauges, and the light shone directly on the gauge monitor giving a bad reflection when the light socket was below the glare shield and the switch was on top of it. In it's final position, the light is more diffused with no glare on the monitor.

To accomplish this, I first drilled a hole in the front of the glare shield for the light socket.

I drilled a hole in the top of the glare shield to feed the wires from the light socket to the switch.
I connected the wires from the switch to the socket with screw terminals, so I could disconnect it easily if I had to remove the glare shield for any reason

The wires and terminals sit behind the switch plate on top of the glare shield, and can't be seen.

The finished view. The plug in cord runs along the underside of the glare shield with all the other wiring and is held in place with plumbing pipe straps. There is also another panel light on the other end of the chord. You can see the white wire for it on the left.

Hi Lewis,

It works well in low light conditions. There is not much difference in the light output from where I had it before.

I made some new glare shield extensions, commonly called glare wings on the tube liners. The old ones I had before were boxy looking, and did not fit well with the new modified glare shield. I tried a few different designs all made from wood but they still didn't look right.

Then I decided to make them totally from aluminum. By doing this I was able to get the curves and flow that make them look more realistic and fit better with the new glare shield.

I first made a template from paper. Then transferred it to aluminum flashing. I cut two layers and attached them with double sided tape.

Then I cut a strip of aluminum the same width as the ones on the window frames, a piece to connect to the glare shield, and a support piece. I attached them to the glare wing with double sided tape and riveted them together.

Then I primed the pieces.

The finished product.

Next up is sliding side windows that provide a real breeze when opened.
