First, I would like to congratulate A2A on an outstanding product!
Wow, this B-17 is a blast! Outstanding job!
It is disappointing that I have a life and can't spend more time "flying" her!
I have recently formatted my system and upgraded to Windows 7, which so far has shown much improvement over Vista, FSX seems much happier.
The only speed bump I have had is with my X-Fi sound card, causing the BSOD a few times.
I was unable to resolve that with the latest drivers, etc., etc.
So it is on the shelf and I am happily running with the on board sound (I can't tell the difference anyway!).
Might chuck it in the woodstove to prevent further urges to reinstall it.
Just wondering if there were any thoughts of expanding the B-17 line with some other variants?
Perhaps E or F models, civilian modified versions or the post war B-17G search and rescue versions.
I have finally found a good pic of a civilianized B-17G
Search and Rescue B-17G w/lifeboat.
Also, for you hot rodders out there, here is a nice "Low Pass" shot of a B-17G!!!
Enjoy!!

Love that last one.
I've currently amassed a whopping 41+ hours in the Accusimed B-17.

Re: B-17 Variants.
Considering that there is enough variation between models, I don't see anything like this happening any time soon as A2A would have to model each aircraft from scratch to get it where it needs to be.

You are so right, but flying in FSX with Cannon locking in any directions for no use / Bomb for no use / ecc ..., don't forget weight for no use, (and all that, just for us "tweak-er" to do), then, my personal meaning, about this, - (it) would be, great with a "Accusimmed" variant, like a "Accusim" B-17 water bomb, like in this real world FSX, that could be used in some of all that add on's scenery there is made for FSX.
And I do like A2A, and every thing they have created.

Re: B-17 Variants.
The 2 variants pictured are both B-17G's, interior changes would be minimal, mostly exterior modifications.
I like the water bomber idea, that would be cool!

Re: B-17 Variants.
One thing I might remind you folks of ...
At one time it was the intent, of A2A, (then known as shockwave,) and I believe it still is their intent, to produce a working ww2 combat simulation using their currently and future modified ww2 fighter aircraft models and additions.
Frankly, I'd just as soon they focused on bring these models to completion and get working on the combat sim as opposed to wasting any more time and manpower/hours on aircraft I have no intention of flying.
For someone like me its agravating as all get out to see them spend hours and hours and thousands of dollars on aircraft I know I'll never buy or fly, but that's just me. I realise their making these aircraft are really stepping stones to where they want them to be, so I can live with it, but ultimately its the final destination that matters.
A full working stand alone combat sim using the aircraft and accu-sim they've modeled up to this point.

Re: B-17 Variants.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about what has been made so far, it's all great stuff.
Nor am I trying to steer A2A in a different direction, keep the warbirds coming, my virtual hangar is 90% warbirds!!
I have bought EVERY Shockwave/A2A product since the very beginning except for the Cub.
The only reason I haven't bought the Cub is I have a real one, so no virtual one is required! LOL!
So I don't think there is any harm in a loyal customer making a few suggestions/requests even if it isn't in the direction you desire Snuffy.

Re: B-17 Variants.
I actually think that if the company wished to broaden its appeal, then doing so with converted military planes in their `later years` civilian guises would be a canny move. And it's not as if A2A would ever claim to be a warbird-exclusive developer - the 377 and the Cub surely prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt?
But I do know a lot of simmers who won't fly military birds in the sim for a variety of reasons.
There's quite a flight sim history of developers doing joint military/civil versions - and Real Air, Flight 1, Aerosoft, FSD et al cannot all be wrong!

Re: B-17 Variants.
One other thing I might bring up ...
A2A is a limited partnership of sorts. They don't have a massive office with thousands of modelers just sittin around waiting to do things. They have a limited and very talented staff, and because of this they can not possibly be expected to do every aircraft in existence.
They should decide on a venue and stick with that venue until such time that they can foresee adding venues or diverting from venues.
If I recall correctly, way back when in the early days of Shockwave, it was mentioned by Scott that his focus would be on Military and "Unique" aircraft.
That said, I go back to my original statement that civilianizing an aircraft isn't a simple matter of just painting, models will have to be built and that's a time consuming project. And time spent on that, detracts the small staff from other ventures.

Re: B-17 Variants.
im more of a war bird fan just cant get enough
but people just think even though a2a only do wwII aircraft just think to your self were alts can you get a fsx add on that if you don't fly it right its going to give you lots of realistic problems like over heating damage to parts
i mean come on in my opinion a2a beat the rest when it comes to quality ,fun and realistic sim addons
oh but three things id like to see next B-17F accusim and as im British spitfire and Lancaster both with accusim
i know im asking a lot but it would be fab if the Lancaster got a look in lol

You are right when it comes to realistic A2A / "problems like over heating damage" / ECC...., but there are other out there you might not be aware of, one to mentioned is the DODOsim Bell 206, (the best Helli (and realistic) ever build for FSX (and other Sim's), in my opinion you can compare with A2A Piper Cup))nath2889 wrote:im more of a war bird fan just cant get enough

Re: B-17 Variants.
I would really like to see an "civilian" version of the B-17, the danish version looks awesome! But i understand that there is some major model remaking. But one nice feature would be an option to remove the turrets and the guns. Then there's just some nice paint jobs to get it "civilian"
Re: B-17 Variants.
I would vote for a B-17F
