Hi all,

I've just recently downloaded the B377 Stratocruiser and Captain of the ship...........So I'm really only just starting to get to grips with this wonderful plane.

While I was doing a bit of checking before I bought the Stratocruiser I was checking Youtube and saw some repaints of the Strat..............I can't seem to find any repaints on the forums, here, Avsim or simviation............So where can you find repaints of this wonderful aircraft? One in particular I liked was an old Air Lingus livery. Also I saw a set of textures somewhere, to dirty the cockpit up a bit, with scratches and chipped paintwork, which I thought might look good in the Guppy. The link on the site directed me to a notice saying the site was being investigated by the American Investigators!!!!!!!!

So could anyone out there give me any advice on where to find repaints for the Stratocruiser.

Thanks.

David Phillips.

Hi David,
Two places to look for paints are:
1. Aussiex.org (OzX) which hosts tons of repaints for other A2A aircraft and one retro Qantas repaint for the 377.
2. Avsim. in the library are quite a few repaints and the "worn interior" you may referenced in your post.

Also, in the forums here, there is a link to an outstanding fictional United repaint by Bigjuicyspider. If you read his posts leading up to the completion of the project, I think you get the idea that repainting the 377 is a daunting task. I wish I was more talented in that regard, or that I had the software, because following along while he struggled with the repaint was an inspiration.

Others may be out there that I don't know about! I do wish there were more.

The link to that file is no longer valid and I removed it now, thanks to the 1000's of Viagra ads I started getting in my inbox after hosting it at that site. I'm far too critical of it to put it out for wide distribution, but I guess if somebody specifically wanted it, I could put it up somewhere. Only public repaint I've ever done, and it was tougher than I thought to make it satisfactory, but thanks for the complement.

Also, as Jacques says, there are dozens of repaints available at Avsim, Flightsim, Aussie, etc, but I don't know how many of them are done at high res.

My One Thousandth post. Have I really had that much to say? Anyway, don't I get promoted to A2A Deck Swab or something now?

It's kind of a pity that there aren't more recent (post accusim) repaints of this lovely bird for the aforementioned reason of resolution as well as the new bump/specular/etc maps.

Hi all,

Thanks for the links to other re-paints, I read your comments, bigjuicyspider with regards to your "United" repaint, which I have to agree with everyone else in saying looks wonderful..............I never realised repainting an aircraft took so much effort..............Something definitely not for the faint hearted!!

Oh congratulations on your 1000th post too!

Well thanks again for the comments

Stretch, the effort involved in repainting an aircraft varies greatly depending on the paintkit and whether you are a stickler or not. Most A2A paintkits are very user friendly, like the B-17, P-40, and Spitfire. The 377, well, it wasn't so user friendly, and it was the first "let's get serious" repaint that I did, so there was a learning curve. And I have a flair for the dramatic, too.. :) Thankfully some of the experienced painters patiently answered my questions on here when they arose.

Anyway, here is a current link to the fictional United livery. Enjoy:

Hi,

Thanks for the link to your "United" livery Bigjuicyspider, I installed it and had a quick look before writing this, It looks really great, I can see the amount of effort you have put in to it. I love the shine in the bare sections of fusalage, never really noticed reflections of clouds in aircraft skin before looking at this one, really cool.

If I have time later I might take her for a spin............Just wanted to thank you for the link
