I blame a few of you for getting me hooked on "Ice Pilots."
So what if Joe bought a Stratocruiser?

This is just a start, I'll post a link when I get it finished. At my present pace, that could take a few more weekends.

EDIT: FINALLY DONE

Excellent work man. I'll Be downloading that thanks to you when it's available. Awesome. I was just up in that neck of the woods just last week in the old stratocruiser.

I'm learning a lot from your United paint, and all the time you put into it. I'll give you a co-author credit if it comes out ok, and take all the blame if not. :D

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

You're joking right?

Remember all those newbie painting questions I asked you a year ago? Heck, I seem to remember that I even used one of your tutorials to guide me through some of the process. As long as we can't see the words "United" poking out from the wings when the sun hits them, its all yours :) :) :)

EDIT: I've sent you a PM with my memory of a couple of 'quirks' that I struggled with, and hopefully they will be of some use to you

Sure I showed you some of the basic process, but your detail work is what I remember the most from those conversations. Thanks for the issue list on the PM, that was exactly what I was hoping for. As she sits in the picture, I've only started on the two fuselage layers. The rest of the files, at the moment, are from your bird to fill in the blanks. (I'm sure you'd recognize those nacelles anywhere  ) It looks quite funny with the United tail sticking up out of the Buffalo green.

Thats too bad about Arnie...

Its not that Buffalo would need to buy a Stratocruiser, just pay for an oceanic search team to find the wreck of Clipper Sovereign of the Skies in the Pacific between SFO and Maui. Then they'd need to raise it, remanufacture it, and fly it. Simple really. Sovereign of the Skies is, in theory, the final remaining original Stratocruiser in the world. Some of the Guppies are original Straotcruisers, but have been so heavily converted that restoration to factory condition is essentially not feasible. The rest were scrapped, crashed, or both...

That's exactly what we need! Loved the Ice Pilots on TV and fell in love with their DC4 in that unique livery. Now this giant painted like the buffalo fleet will be a milestone for my North America business!

R.I.P. Arnie

Before we charter salvage vessels, I think some of the airframes at Greybull, WY or the one in Wisconsin woud be slightly easier "candidates" (and I say that very loosely.) Not true stratocruisers, but above water, and able to be spotted on google from my desk.

But if you're financing the ocean expedition, sign me up. :)

Thanks for re-posting the paint kit, Lewis!

True, but at least they weren't scrapped.

Here's a little more progress on the paint. I played with the weathering, and added the tail. I'm debating on the height of the black underneath border so the stripes actually regressed a bit from the previous pic, where they lined up nicely. This pic still includes James' wings and engines. I haven't even opened those files yet.
