There are ways to run MultiSkin stripped down if your vidcard can't hold the full set of textures.

use MultiSkin\MultiSkinTextures\****.DDS if 1 == 1
at the top of each file - it is normally the bottom line in the file. This allows the planes to be rendered with individual letter codes, but using the basic default skin.
(the **** is the respective name for the default skin file for each plane type)
