A2A recently posted some pictures on facebook from their trip to a Douglas A-1 Skyraider for some audio recordings of the R-3350. That was about a week ago, which means the sound is being worked on right now.

On a side-note: Just imagine an A2A Skyraider... One can dream, I guess.

I have been fortunate enough to have heard both a Skyraider and a Constellation running in person.
They sound completely different.
A Skyraider has individual exhaust stacks where as a non PRT Connie has a collector ring with 2 large outlets.
Both are awesome, the Connie doesn't have the "bark" of a Skyraider or 3350 powered Sea Fury or Bearcat.

Unless you are taking way back in history the two you heard where indeed very different. Past the L-049 as you note the engine and layouts changed quite a bit. The more modern Connies had major engine upgrades over there variant life up to the killer flame makers of the late models.

thanks,

Well it is still possible to muffle them a bit in an audio editor ! The exhaust is not the only factor to define the personality of the engine sound imo, the firing order plays a bigger role (this is why the Griffon doesn't sound like a big Merlin, at all). A 3350 will still be a 3350, and different from a 2800 or a pair of 1820's :D

Nice video Will. How cool must that flight be in this scenery for the passengers and the crew!

I thought so too, what an experience it was for those on board, to soar in the Alps on a "Connie".

Sorry, but if you saw a Connie with a collector ring, you didn't see an L-049A. It was either an L-649 or L-749 with "Jet Stacks". This is a different engine than is being done here. The L049A had either 6 stacks, or 12, depending on the operator. As such, the Skyraider is the closest you'll get to the right exhaust.

I can only imagine! I remember watching the reveal livestream, seing the Connie for the first time and losing my mind.
I think once this is out all my beloved A2A aircraft will be covered in dust in my virtual hangar for quite some time.

Really looking forward to the first official screenshots.
