Short flight last night out of KHVN in Janny M (bad headwinds aloft), then a longer one this afternoon from KFRG to my home base at KGAI in Target for Tonight.

Which is wonderful, except that back in my P-51 hangar, Sallee is feeling neglected. And you know she's got a short fuse... 8)

So... gave Sallee some exercise.

Pretty amazing how squirrely the P-51 feels after you've gotten used to the P-47.

Beyond that... the usual mixed feelings when switching from one Accu-sim aircraft to another - love the detail in the P-51 (the battery was balky due to cold weather) but miss the solidity of the Thunderbolt.

For those keeping score at home - some great material in this book (great book in general, btw) about pilot reactions to the Mustang when transitioning from the P-47. Predictable in some cases but not all of them. Highly recommended.

Now, back to the Jug...

Picked up a killer new repaint for the Jug...

Then I flew from Bonner's Ferry to Gallatin (Bozeman); partially through a snow storm. Made for an interesting flight. Pretty happy with my landing practice paying off as well. There was a time when I couldn't even keep the Jug in one piece. Now I start her from Cold & Dark, fly her right, land it even better, and shut her down properly. Well done Accu-Sim...well done.

It's an ORBX airport, and they call it Bozeman.

Number 9 in your first set is my new desktop. Beautiful!

I first bought the P-47 er..a long time ago. I used it half a dozen times at the beginning but I just couldn't come to terms with it. It was a PITA to get started when I DID get it off the ground it kept blowing up! Since then I flew it once more a couple of years later. The same. Last week I installed it again and I haven't left it alone since! My theory is the the C172, Cherokee and now the C182T have taught me to fly. The 'not to be taken for granted' character of the 47 is so immersive.
Landing is still a bit scruffy but I'm not breaking anything. Thanks Chunk for lighting her up for me. :D

You're very welcome Ron! The more Jug pilots, the merrier. Once you get the hang of her, she's just a joy to fly.

I'm also humbled that you're using one of my shots as your desktop image. Many of your RV-7 paints have graced my desktop before as well. :)
