Ill just add in my 2pence worth,
I believe a twist grip joystick is enough if thats what you have. I know in combat sim world alot of pilots just use these as part of a HOTAS system and they get on just fine in all manner of sims. Pedals are of course nice, it adds to the immersive feeling a hell of alot, can be a little easier to use. However overall if you have a twist grip and want to keep it for portability sake etc, then I'd suggest to just practice practice practice. Apply power slowly and be careful and precise with the movements. No sudden movements or you end up auto correcting yourself for the last movement and end up tank slapping or zig zagging down the runway.
Also check your mappings, make sure you have the stick set up to how you want it and maybe try experimenting with stick senstivity and deadzones etc.
I think it partly depends on what you're flying. If you're using the Cub or the Spitfire then realistic rudder control is a big part of the simulation. Flying a 747 (or a combat sim) and there's lots else happening so it might not be so important.
