All of our Accu-Sim aircraft have 4-stroke engines.
FOUR STROKE ENGINE
Intake Stroke: Opens intake valve, piston moves down, pulling in air/fuel mixture.
Compression Stroke: Intake and exhaust valves closed, piston moves up compression air / fuel mixture.
Power Stroke: Spark ignites the compressed air / fuel mixture, and explosion pushes piston down, creating the force that turns the crankshaft
Exhaust Stroke: Exhaust valve opens, piston moves up expelling remnants from the prior explosion
Here is a nice animation of a radial engine (The P-47 Thunderbolt has a radial engine). This anim shows the grace of the combustion engine.

Re: Engine animations
My flight instructor used to say Suck Squeeze Bang Blow referring to the 4 stroke cycle. Sounds just dirty enough for you to remember it.

Re: Engine animations
Ha - a radial engine always looks like it is 'getting it's groove on' when viewed like this
Suck Squeeze Bang Blow - yep great basic analogy, cool thing is it is exactly the same analogy for a turbine engine!

Re: Engine animations
Aye, 4 strokes, 5 events. Can anyone name the 5th?

Re: Engine animations
Correct. This is often overlooked but critical step and the engine is timed to have this happen at a specific moment in the 4 stroke process. Everyone knows it happens but, not many people think about it.DHenriquesA2A wrote: ↑16 Dec 2021, 21:53Intake, compression, ignition, power, exhaust.
