In fact she flies at FL200 + apparently without showing any sign of running out of breath....

The other day, I was simming near the Everest at Lukla. Don't know why, but for fun I loaded the Cub and couldn't resist flying her from there, something I know I wouldn't even think of trying in real life. obviously.
What a surprise to see she was flying up there like a young girl. And, as you know, there is not even a mean to regulate the mixture... its either on or off. So, here we were at full mixture flying at 24,000 feet (2100 RPM).

This is supposed to be the most realistic sim. How realistic is that ? Anyone care to explain to this old pilot ?
Thanks

Have you maybe enabled automixture in realism settings ? settings per manual ? fsx sp2 or acceleration installed ? any weather addons ? accusim with all patches installed ?

Well, estimated absolute ceiling for the Cub is more or less 14,000 feet, will need to check this out , these figures, you provided would suit more to a Super Cub, strange the engine even worked.

Edit: Checked, with full tank, no Heidi, excellent engine, starting at Lukla, i could crawl to 11,500 feet or so, then stalled, i guess fate wanted that it was close to a mountain wall  , check your settings carefully, if there still will be an issue, i bet someone with more fsx knowladge will come by  .

Are you running Accu-sim or just the standard A2A Cub? Without Accu-sim the cub will beheave like most addons, the advanced features are only availible with the accu-sim pack.

Please not ethat the update is a recommended download and adds a few new features to the accu-simmed cub, also please make sure your settings are set as per the manual.

thanks,
Lewis

Also, want to state the obvious just in case, but make sure you are not flying the default Microsoft J-3 Cub.

Scott.

Hi Scott & Lewis, my good friends...
Yes I have the right Cub (the original one by MS is not worth its space on any HD) and yes I have Accu-Sim, and yes of course I've got all the right settings and thank you for your interest in this one.

I forgot to confess that in order to reach FL220-300 I did it by the use of slew, as an experiment, and I did not fly up there by the grace of the Cub delightful little engine. So, I think it's an FSX quirk, nothing to do with A2A of course, as I was simply outside any envelope conceived by any knowledgeable and skillful designer: slew.

So, interested by your comments, I tested the same today with the MS Cub and the C172. It was the same, except that those two have a mixture control that can be adjusted (was showing 5 and 3% respectively.) But they too behaved like the A2A Cub, maintaining some sort of level flight with reduced power.

So, definitely nothing I should, or anyone, worry about, I believe, just a system quirk. I used to fly regularly to 14,000ft in the Alpes with our super Cub (150hp) and 12,500 max with the 90hp, so imagine my initial surprise when those 65hp seemed to let me stay up there at 30,000 on the sim, when in no way you an reach these heights by yurself !

Great respect to A2A + Accu-sim and thanks for a fantastic "product".
