Well the Spitfire has been out for quite a few months now and I'm sure like most of you, this is one of the few airplanes that I fly in FSX. What do you find yourself flying more often; the MkI or II and why?

I've been spending most of my time in the MkI mainly due to its simplicity, in my opinion, when compared to the MkII. More so because of the fixed pitch prop and manual gear pump.

What about you guys?

The Mark I, equipped with the two-speed propeller because I prefer using the electric starter. The manual gear pump only adds to the 'hands on' of the experience. :)

I'm currently working my way down the Pacific coast with the eventual goal to circumnavigate the entire U.S., and some of the larger airports I've landed at have required a lot of taxiing between the runway and general aviation parking. Sometimes I've had to shut the engine down multiple times while in transit to wait for the engine to cool before proceding, so I fear that the cartridge starter system would be a liability.

I like the Mk II better personally. I was never a fan of pumping the gear up and down.

I tend to fly Mk.Is purely because those are the liveries for the places that I fly from.

When I want to go from somewhere to somewhere else, I tend to fly the IIa, but not always - the Ia still gets a lot of look-ins there as well.

I very rarely fly the IIb. Possibly because I know how unreliable those darned cannon were, so don't want the extra weight? ;)

The only thing why I prefer the Mark I is the electric starter. I love the sound of the first coughs while this crying starter struggles to pass the single cylinder's compression points :-)
