Daryll, what is the wing washout on the Spitfire? What is the effect of it? Also, do you happen to have a figure for the Mustang?

Washout is to ensure that the stall starts at the wing root and works its way outward. By doing so you can maintain aileron authority up to the stall and I believe it also tames spins a bit.

Do you happen to know how many degrees it is on the Spit and/or the Mustang?

Will need to search M&S and the GA's for the Spit..not sure off hand how many degrees. Will take me a bit as I'm buried at work ATM. Sorry, no Mustang info.

Hi Guys

I hope you are all well.

I an help you out with the P51D, I am sure I have the Spitfire details but will have to have a look through some drawings I have tomorrow. I can tell what P/N the incidence boards are but the manual I have with does not show any figures,

The P51D washout is 2 degrees. -1 at the root and +1 at the tip. This is with a 5 degree dihedral. This is from the NAA P51D wing structural analysis document.

Hope this helps and will look for the Spifire ASAP.

All the best

Dave

Hi Bigjuciyspider

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

The Spitfire Mk11A & B have a Aerofoil section of N.A.C.A 2200 series, with a Incidence of +2 Deg at the root, with - 1/2 Deg at the tip. This is with a Dihedral of 6 Deg. This has been taken from A.P.15858,Vol. I

I hope this helps, and if you need anything else please let me know.

Dave
