Hi Folks. I have scanned the manual, but can't find my answer. Can some one please point me in the right direction? After or even during take-off with the MKII, I get blue smoke coming from the engine. What am I doing wrong please?
Thank you.
John

Re: Engine Blue smoke on Take Off
Hi again lewis. Yes, I have been watching the temps' and brought the radiator flap lever back a couple of notches to try to cure the problem.
Sorry! What is a 2D pop up. I have three screens and can only fly in VC mode.

Hello,
the manual for your simulation can be found under your start menu >> all programs >> A2A Simulations.
The simulation comes with multiple 2D pop up panels for use from everything from Maintenance hanger to the payload screen.
thanks,
Lewis

Re: Engine Blue smoke on Take Off
You can check the maintenance hangar and do a compression test. If some cylinders are below 50, I think, they will burn some oil and you will the the blue smoke on high power settings (high rpm and high MP).
Also be careful with some FSX default key bindings. If you enable default FSX air show smoke, you will see the engine smoking, although there is no problem with the accu-sim plane.
Regards
Jens

Re: Engine Blue smoke on Take Off
Hi Lewis. I downloaded and installed the update installer you suggested. The results of doing that are as follows.
My Saitek pedestal doesn't work for throttle, prop' and mixture. Maintenance Hanger unavailable it says - "Access to Maintenance Hanger only on ground with engine off" Then 'click to bypass', but that doesn't work either.
The propeller is stopped and I am on the ground.
Shift+E doesn't do anything now. Clicking on the Start button also does nothing.
I think the update must have messed the whole thing up. Do you have any ideas please?
Thank you.
John

Hello John,
are you an Accu-sim user?
And is your FSX updated correctly to the requirements stated in the manual?
thanks,
Lewis

Re: Engine Blue smoke on Take Off
I do use the Acu-Sim. I am using Prepar3D not FSX though. But apart from the Windscreen fogging and the blue smoke everything worked well, before this ugrade with prepar3D
I think maybe I will have to uninstall the whole package and re-install it again, but I'm reluctant to install this latest update, as that is what seems to have mucked it all up.

Re: Engine Blue smoke on Take Off
Well the latest update is now up (dated today) and it comes with Spitfire updates so give it a go. But I do have to mention that officially the simulation is an FSX simulation and is not supported in the P3D Professional platform.
thanks,
Lewis

Re: Engine Blue smoke on Take Off
OK Lewis. Thanks for all your help, it is very much appreciated. I have done a complete reinstall of Wop3 and not the ACCU-Sim and all seems to be functioning ok now. I can't get the Radiator temperature down though, it rides at 140' but I have tried the radiator lever in various racheted positions, but the temp' seems to stay at 140', but apart from that I think the reinstall, has done the trick, with the blue smoke and the fogged windshield.
Once again thanks for your time and effort. I am very grateful to you.

Re: Engine Blue smoke on Take Off
Hi again Lewis. I have tried everything to get the radiator temp's down. Flying with gear retracted, 60% throttles, Radiator lever in Normal position, but still the Rad' Temps overheat. The oil gauge is ok that sits at about 80, but the rad'I just don't know.
Cheers.

Re: Engine Blue smoke on Take Off
What are your boost, RPMs, IAS, cooler door set at?
I like to climb at 4, 26-2800rpm, cooler open 1/4.
Cruise at 4, 2400rpm, cooler closed. If temps start to climb, pull back to 2 boost or open cooler to 1/4.
In hot weather, might have to open the cooler more, or pull the power back.
Always keep IAS above 200.

Re: Engine Blue smoke on Take Off
Hi Robert. Thanks for your input. I will try what you suggest. When you say open or close cooler. How do you do that? Is that the Radiator lever at the left of the pilot seat please|?
Re: Engine Blue smoke on Take Off
Yes left to the pilot's seat. Should also work with simulator's default key commands, I think shift + ctrl + v to open or + c to close.
I have mine always fully open on ground and takeoff and initial climb.
Try to start with little colder outside temps, so it's easier to manage engine temps (takes a little longer to overheat).

Re: Engine Blue smoke on Take Off
John, the Spit shouldn't be that hard to keep cool provided you don't linger on the ground too long and you're not in the tropics! Just a thought: have you checked your coolant (glycol) level in the shift + 4 menu?
Cheers,
Nick
