Hi everyone

Been enjoying flying the Accu-Sim Spitfire on FSX for some weeks now. Unfortunately my old PC went belly-up and I had to replace it with a new (refurbished) Hewlett Packard desktop with a much better specification running Windows 7 (the old machine ran on Vista). I installed FSX and the Acceleration pack and then re-installed my favourite add-ons including the Accu-Sim Spitfire and the BF109. The Bf109 install ended badly, with the program claiming it can't find the 109 (but that's another issue) and the Spitfire seemed fine, with all four different versions appearing on the 'Aircraft' selection screen along with a set of Mosquito and Spitfire Mk V add-ons which all work fine. Unfortunately when I select any of the Accu-Sim Spitfires, the image appears in the window but fails to begin rotating in the ordinary way. If I click on 'Fly Now' I get a few seconds of the rotating ring symbol and then a pop-up tells me a fatal error has been made and the program relaunches FSX. This keeps happening and I can't seem to find a way around it. I tried disabling User Account Control but that made no difference and I've now reactivated it - any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated ?

Cheers

Dave

Hello Dave,

it sounds like you are missing the lates version of direct X9, did you skip this step of the install its the last part of the aircrafts installation?

However the error occured (soemtimes a windows error will prevent Dx from installing, to get around this you can download direct from microsoft the latest here;

And since you are now on Win7 be SURE to right-click, "Run as administrator" when you run the istallers
and also when you start FSX. This may save you some consternation.

Another thought, way, way back when I was running Xp I had some problems loading
the Spifires until I downloaded the reduced size textures. That said, I have not had a problem with
my Win7 x64 install.

Thank you both for the prompt (and helpful replies). Tried the Direct X route and it worked straight away ! Now I need to retrieve the link I found while I was using the previous machine which gave the option of starting with the engine cold and switched off instead of warmed up and running - the only problem is I can't remember where it was I found the answer to that, though I'm almost certain it involved an extra piece of software rather than a simple routine in the existing FSX setup - I wonder why Microsoft didn't offer the option for people who wanted to go through the engine start routine themselves ?

Cheers and thanks again !
