Group Flight, Sunday, January 6, 2019 T-6s again!
Time: 1900 UTC for 1930 departure
Meet on: The Skypark server on JoinFS
Comms through: A2A community on Discord
Pilots of the Fuerza Aérea Venezolana:
As the next stage of your training, you will undertake a high-altitude familiarization flight. This exercise includes two climbs to 15,000 feet, and a landing and takeoff at an airfield at 5,000 feet elevation.
Aircraft: North American T-6
Assemble at: Carora/Aeropuerto Nacional La Greda, SVCO
Local time: 9am
Weather: Real or Fair
Take off in formation and climb southwest to Valera/Aeropuerto Antonio Nicolás Briceño, SVVL. You should be at 10,000 feet by the time you reach Valera. Climb to 15,000 feet to cross the mountains. Land at Barinas/Luisa Caceres De Arismendi Airport, SVBI. Take off and climb to 15,000 feet. Land at Merida/Alberto Carnevalli Airport, SVMD. Take off and follow the Rio Chama west to El Vigia/Juan Pablo Perez Alfonzo Airport, SVVG. Land. Congratulate yourself on surviving.
NB: The runway at SVMD, in FSX:SE at least, hovers a couple of feet above the ground. It's fine to land on, but if you taxi off it you'll drop with a thump and then, if you try to taxi back on, your plane will trip and destroy the prop. I recommend landing, taxiing, and taking off from the grass to the south.

Won't you pass out at 15,000ft without oxygen?
Re: Group Flight, Sunday, January 6, 2019 T-6s revisited
I've been over both these mountain ranges already with no apparent ill effects. If you can pass out at 15,000 feet it takes longer than I've spent up there. It would be interesting to research the effects of altitude versus time in A2A aircraft; I bet if you get the Mustang up to 40,000 feet or so and pull your mask you won't stay awake very long.A2A Pilot wrote:Won't you pass out at 15,000ft without oxygen?

We won't be up that high for very long. Most of the route is not over 10,000 ft.A2A Pilot wrote:Won't you pass out at 15,000ft without oxygen?
