Steam add-on issue

Post by ableza »

My FSX:Steam Edition has no add on menu, either in game, or the main menu. I haven't added text to the dll file because, I have no idea what to add and where to add it in the existing text. I've read a thread that gave an example text, but I was confused. Do I copy and paste the whole script below what's already there? Do I read every line and change words to match? The thread I read was years old, and not even sure if it was for Steam. I can't find that text example anymore on this thread either :?

Also, Do I install all (3) of the simmconnect.exe files?

This is pretty ridiculous to have to go through this for an add on. However, I've spent the money on three add ons, and none of them work, and there is no real cut and clear description of what to actually do. Just a bunch of scraps. I've tried the A2A forums, and reddit, but it's the same.

The main add-on in question is the Accu-feel add on. I have no other add ons currently. Just a clean install of FSX:SE

If anyone has a detailed description of how to get steam add ons to work in game, and to make the add on menu appear I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I don't know what you mean by "add on menu". I have both steam & the boxed versions of FSX on my system & loaded many add-ons without issue. I simply used the installers the way they are meant to be used. The only exception is that since I had the boxed version installed first, everything wanted to default install to the boxed version. I had to use regedit to modify the registry to default to the Steam version. After that, all of my add-ons are installed & working correctly on both versions.

I have 3 A2A aircraft, ORBX scenery, REX, FSUIPC... All work with both versions.

Hello,

You are now posting on the A2A Forums where else have you posted as you mention posting on the A2A forums, but this is the only official forums for support?

Anyway, it sounds like your FSX is having some issues if none of your additions are working so I would recommend a reinstall of your FSX and maybe trying Dovetail support for your FSX to get your FSX all up and working correctly prior to adding the add-ons.

thanks,

You just aren't aware of my issue that's all. No amount of reinstalling will solve the issue. (Ive tried hundreds of times).

The issue I'm referring to is similar to:

http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtop ... 89&t=50616

http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtop ... 89&t=50796

Many other add-ons have worked for me. however, apparently, in FSX:SE, there is a "new" add-on menu in game. Many people can't get it to appear, many can. Without being able to make the menu appear, you can't activate certain add-ons. In my case, Accu-Feel (via Steam). You can't bring up the Accu-feel menu to adjust the sliders, nor does the program even work. It has to be brought up in the FSX in game menu-which doesn't exist for me.

Someone knows how to actually make it appear and work, but the info is scattered and not very clear at best.

In fact, Lewis, you have posted and tried to help with this matter in the past, but the exact directions are not very clear to me.

I am hoping for a knowledgeable person to help with the matter.

Thanks

Ok, I am un clear of whats happening as first you say all addons dont work and now you say only accu-feel is not working for you??

Can you please let us know the exact product you purchase, if via steam or the A2A Store.

Also please dont discredit uninstalling and reinstalling, without doing it correctly you could of in fact not completed the procedure once.

The standard issue with the add-on menu not appearing is due to the xml dll not being formatted correctly you can correct this with the instructions in the troubleshooting FAQ here;
The FSX Add-On / Accu-Feel Setup pull down menu is missing.
1. Using a text editor like Notepad, open your C:\Users\[YOUR USER NAME]\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\dll.xml file and verify these entries exist:
(If you cannot find the dll.xml, In WINDOWS, open your CONTROL PANEL / Appearance and Personalization / Folder Options / View / then click on "Show hidden files, folders, and drives)

<Launch.Addon>
<Name>A2A Feel</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Path>Modules\A2A_Feel.dll</Path>
<DllStartName>module_init</DllStartName>
<DllStopName>module_deinit</DllStopName>
</Launch.Addon>

<Launch.Addon>
<Name>AccuFeelMenu</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>Modules\AccuFeelMenu.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>

2. Open your [FSX Install] / Modules folder and verify that these two dlls are there:
- AccuFeelMenu.dll
- A2A_Feel.dll

NOTE:
When you first ran FSX after installing Accu-Feel, you should have been prompted to load the new DLL. If you didn't receive this prompt, then Accu-Feel is not loading.

3. If you have FSUIPC, re-install FSUIPC. From a customer: "Accufeel and FSUIPC did not show in my menu. Ran FSUIPC4. EXE and both reappeared. FSX asked if I accepted a certain.dll to run and then all went well. Found this solution on another site..."

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, report it here on our forums.

I'm moving the thread to the tech support area to help get you up and running.

Steam install places the FSX modules folders for DLC (including Accu-feel, shockwave lights, etc) in FSX/DLC/...... The folders are numbered, such as "379233", "379546" and so on.

The files you said to find are located in the module subfolder within the a2a subfolder of the "379546" folder.

Not sure if that will interfere with the DLL file I edited. Also, I hope I added to the DLL file correctly.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>

<SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">

<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
<Launch.Addon>
<Name>Traffic Toolbox</Name>

<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>

</Launch.Addon>
<Launch.Addon>
<Name>A2A Feel</Name>

<DllStartName>module_init</DllStartName>
<DllStopName>module_deinit</DllStopName>
</Launch.Addon>
<Launch.Addon>
<Name>AccuFeelMenu</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>Modules\AccuFeelMenu.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
</SimBase.Document>

Haven't loaded yet, and have not discovered any of the tips you mentioned in the end of the last post yet. Unfortunately, the paste of the text does not show the spaces in the left column. These seem specific, so I mimicked the pattern of the existing text with the addition. I was unable to upload an image of my text file or file locations for you.

In fact, after loading, FSX finds an error with these 2 files:
- AccuFeelMenu.dll
- A2A_Feel.dll

Then proceeds to open FSX. This is new. However, the accu-feel add on, or the add on menu still does not work, and does not exist.

Also, in reply to your earlier post, all other add on planes work. The problem is with A2A Accu-feel.

Ok so its steam edition and steam DLC?

In that case the dll lines missing will be this;
<Launch.Addon>
<Name>A2A Feel</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Path>DLC\379546\Modules\A2A_Feel.dll</Path>
<DllStartName>module_init</DllStartName>
<DllStopName>module_deinit</DllStopName>
</Launch.Addon>
<Launch.Addon>
<Name>AccuFeelMenu</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>DLC\379546\Modules\AccuFeelMenu.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
Note the correct Path to the DLC folder.

Ok, that worked. I now have the "add-on" tab in the in game menu bar, and can also open the accu-feel menu. Thanks

Since I have two other DLC through Steam---

FTX Trees HD

and

3D lights Redux

Do I need to figure out how to add text in the DLL file for these as well?

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

no you should be good, you only had to do it for Accu-feel due to an installation error on your system. This is normally all automatic. I suspect you are not running as full admin rights on your system so the installer couldn't add the lines but you'd have to ask Dovetail support as they make the steam DLC installers.

Dovetail have full support forums on steam a full support portal too;

I'm running as admin. I'm sure dovetail hasn't resolved all the problems that could arise from the Steam version yet--same goes for all other add-on publishers.

Thanks to the community for filling in the blanks.

I have also just recently tried to install Accu-Feel and have had the same issue as previously discussed in this thread. I added the lines specified for FSX-SE to the dll file. However, I can't find a DLC folder or the two files that should be there.
What is the full path of this folder? And if I don't have one then what?
This is what my dll file looks like

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>

<SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">

</Launch.Addon>

<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>DLC\379546\Modules\AccuFeelMenu.dll</Path>

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated
