Bowerman Air Race Circuit (Scenery Download)

Post by Buzz313th »

So you got your new P-51. You can't shoot anything with it... atleast not yet! But.... you can race with it! What better way than to push your Accu-Simmed P-51D to the limit. Power up past the throttle gate, while riding that fine line between a smooth running engine and a piston throwing, crank grinding, flaming mess, as you try to outpace your online friends.

I just uploaded some scenery for Orbx's Bowerman airport in PNW that has an Air Race Circuit in it. I lightly modeled it after the Reno Air Race Circuit by using the Reno Air Race Pylons. I doubled the scale and increased the density of the pylons as they are hard to see in FSX at original scale.

Most Air Races are run in left hand circuits...

This is a test, or beta version. I would like to get peoples feedback on the course design before I commit to adding more asthetic scenery to compliment the atmosphere of an Air Race.

Also, if you would like to find some buddies to race online with. Try the Teamspeak Server at Digital Themepark. Or just post here with a request for an online racer.

Not a single reply? :?

So I will take it that people just arent interested in Air Racing?

Does the course suck?

Too borring?

Can anyone give me some feedback?

:)

Too high requirements

I like the idea of airracing with the a2a p51 ;-) but would prefere other routes, i.e. something in the valleys of mountaineus areas like alps or rockies. For flat areas I would use Reno.

Nice work and a very good idea.

Don´t expect alot of feedback.

Just like the "Weathership" gauge I uploaded for the A2A Boeing 377 Stratocruiser, feedback is slow coming.

I think people will download it, use it and be happy, but not necessarily jump in here and tell.

Just because You don´t get feedback doesn´t mean that people don´t like it.

When I like to do basic flying, I turn to A2A Aircraft, cause A2A "basic" flying means "complex" procedures.

I know, I had posted about A2A making some reno race planes and hardly got ANY replies on that. I would do it but I wilve with capped internet service so I can blow my download info on online flying.

LOL.. To be honest I was hoping to find someone to race with. As of now, I am just racing against my own FSRecorder ghost and it's getting borring... LOL

I thought about the same thing... Imagine if A2A gave us the ability to modify the P-51 in the maint hanger by swapping out stock parts and configurations with parts and modification one might find typical to a reno P-51 unlimited air racing team. So you could increase compression, change bore and stroke, change boost pressure, change wing AOI, clip the wings, lower the profile of the canopy etc... So the advantage would obviously be by changing these parts the P-51 would get faster, but the drawbacks would be a change in flight dynamics at regimes other than race speeds and a drop in reliability. Then the user could modify their planes to the hairy edge of performance and the further they go, they would risk not finishing the race.

We saw a simple swap of parts in the Maint Hanger with the spitfires prop, which in turn would change dynamic flight characteristics. I wonder if they could do it to the extent that I am describing?

Obviously, from my point of view this could be an additional addon to the current P-51. So A2A could create income from the additional coding and modelmaking and only those interested in this addon woulkd buy it. I think both parties would benefit, not to mention, it would be another groundbreaking step foreward in FSX development.

My goal of the current circuit was too keep the action close enough to one central point, so that spectators could watch in a online environment and have almost as much fun watching as they would flying. This might lead to online videos, a live anouncer, the ability to have realtime pylon judges and maybe someday evolve into an online racing league.

If there is any interest in this, then I was planning on taking it a step further and making a customized Red Bull air race course for the speeds the P-51 flies at. The current Red Bull Air Race courses are tailored for high G loads and lower relative speeds for planes like the Edge and Extra. The P-51 would never be able to competatively finish those tight courses. So the course would have to be loosened up for the Warbirds.

Sounds like a great idea but I dont know if it would be more coding that its worth. something for A2A to really think about.

But if your interested, Digital Themepark will be hosting a Online Racing event in a week or two.

I'll be participating when time permits, as we've flown online quite a few times, and I've noted how stable it is on that particular server, very little lag.

Draw for me is the scenery - it's free for that area, including Bowerman airport - also, it's just nice to have a bimble about.

I am very interested in this. My flight club is also. We all have te P-51 and would love something like this. We also use KHQM as our FBO Keep up the good work. Very very nice. Totally adds a new dimension to this area.

If you can, please PM me. We are getting close to releasing the event details. I do need to do some trials and tests to confirm the recording software will work as planned with ~ 20 pilots flying around in a circle.

I could use some folks to help me do a 30 minute tests..
