A2A Simulations - Oshkosh 2014

Post by Lewis - A2A »

Hello Everyone,

We are exhibiting at this years EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014 all week. As well as inviting everyone to come and visit us for some face to face time at our Booth 4009 in Hanger D we will also be proving lots of updates from the show on our Facebook, Twitter and of course forums. So here is the forum thread we will be updating as often as we can.

Lewis started work for A2A Simulations back in 2006 when the company was still in its early days, on the 23rd July 2014 Lewis finally met Scott, his good friend and boss for the past 8 years, in person for the first time. Lewis' first comment noting "Hey Scott you're a lot shorter than Imagined!"

Image

The familar Piper Comache ready to be loaded up (to max weight) for the trip across 1/3 the US to Oshkosh from base.

Image

The Hanger at base filled with some beautiful aircraft but more on that another time.

Image

Carefully loading up the Comanche, weighing everything with Scott working out the full weight and balance. There wasnt a square inch that wasn't used for the flight!

Image

Lewis selfie with Nostrils to full power!

Image

Pre-flights can be messy though we are still not sure how Scott managed to get grease all over his back!

Image

Cruising up in the big blue

A panorama of the cockpit on the first leg of the trip

Image

Refuel stop at Freemont about half way to Oshkosh from base. It was a beautiful little place, right out of the FTX Orbx style of airports, even had a old DC3 under restoration or some such tucked away in a hanger there.

A very Happy and relaxed Scott with the STEC AP cruising the Comanche nice and fast on a beautiful day for flying

Image

A flypast of Chicago and for MSFS fans the old Meigs field that sadly is now all overgrown.
Image

And we arrive at Oshkosh a day before all the complicated Notams come into effect meaning all the reading up we had done prior to arrival was meaningless, but it did take some stress out of the landing as Scott smoothly put the heavily laded fat Comanche down.

Image

Some basic unloading after taxing with the EAA help to our spot

Image

Within seconds of us landing and the engine stopping this beautiful Cessna 170 pulled up alongside us.

Tie down time to keep her in one place

The A2A Simulations Booth, 4009, Hanger D,.. Some Assembly required

The place had certainly started to fill up come Friday evening

A very swanky looking Comanche 400!

The classic Mooney with the awesome tail

Wing tip tanked Bonanza, we thought the tip tanks certainly added to the looks of the Bo.

And finally the EAA people helping sort things out have been great so far. Here we get a lift from one side of the site to the other, one of many lifts we have been offered throughout the few days we have been here (Oshkosh is BIG, like really really big so these lifts being offered are of great use and very welcome to tired feet).

OMG what is this? It looks like it's based on an AT-6, but is sooo much more sleek (and looks very powerful)!

Seems like you're having a blast already, thanks for sharing so many pics with us!

That wouldn't - by chance - be your hand-print, eh Lewis?

Wow looks like you guys found some nice hotel accommodations. I see where you parked, someone had already had their accommodations set up (orange tent).

Appreciate the thread... nice work. 8)

Did some research this morning and learned it is a North American P-64, and very rare indeed!

Enjoy your trip Lewis. LOL, maybe you can convince Scott to stop by Riverside, Iowa on the way back, you can visit the future birthplace of Capt. Kirk

Keep up the great photos. 8) If you happen to see the Velocity V-Twin or the Diamond DA-42-VI could you take a couple of shots? I know the DA is one of those new-fangled glass and plastic airplanes, but it is always great to see where technology is going eh? :D

Great photos, Lewis. For the variety of aircraft seen, Oshkosh surely can't be bettered - if you love aircraft, it must be fascinating. By the way, that looks like quite a bit of gear being loaded into the Comanche in the fourth photo.

Yes Paul we went to max weight on the way out. She was a very fat bird but she flew beautifully the whole way.
