Working on an Iridescent repaint for the P51.
Not sure if the final will turn out to what I'm expecting but it's getting there. This is just the beginning.

Thank you sir! one thing I have to ask is did you notice the two different canopies? I ask because eight different people asked me about the plane itself but they never noticed the canopies LOL I guess its something we just take for granted and don't expect to be changed. I just don't know which one to go with yet hehe.

Re: Iridescent repaint in the works
Hmmmm true Iridescent paint may not work on these models. I don't think the modelling was set up for that type of reflection. If any of you have ever played a sim called *Need for speed* (all versions) you'll know what I'm trying to do here but the models have to be made to accept this type of effects right from the start. On top of all that, FSX Has to also be designed to allow this to happen which I don't know if it is either.
I'm still playing around with different files and techniques beyond your wildest imaginations but so far we might have to settle for a Pearl-Essence type of paint job.
Here's how a real Iridescent paint job looks but again I don't think the fsx models or the sim itself will allow the lighting to be focused in this way.
As you see the effects in the cars below, no matter what angle you are to the vehicle the paint will react the same no matter what your view. You'll have the same spot of high intensity color at every angle you view the object. This is why this type of paint is so unique and so expensive. It literally bends light on a whole other dimension. At least I'm getting close to it lol. What a pain in the butt though!.

Alan, you're work is always over the top This is just another example........some people always take the easy way without regard to whose toes they step on..so called friends or not....karma will pay them back one hundred fold......
Does the canopy change the tint of the view from inside looking out? Just wondering

Re: Iridescent repaint in the works
Hey Scott, Yeah I know and I shouldn't let that crap bother me but...........
About the canopy,... well there's actually two ways of doing this but only one works without any interruptions. First I made a tinted canopy and had the interior tinted as well but that process had a problem because when you turned on interior lighting the lights had some kind of reaction with the interior tint and it made the interior canopy go solid and you could hardly see outside so I did away with that process.
The ones you see here are only for exterior and will not interfere with any lighting. After trying several different interior painting of the canopy I could not find a solution that would not interfere with the visual element of looking out but this new process lets you see a nice tint from outside but the inside looks normal (default).
I figure thats OK since you'll be viewing the aircraft from the outside and that's what counts. From the inside there is just too much tint in the day light so it was distracting on landing and then the night lighting issue was even worse.
Just made some new screen shots I'll be posting shortly... from what you've seen here already these new screens are not what you'll be expecting. This has gone on for many many steps to get what your about to see and all of the paint in the above screens is applied to this new Iridescent paint.
This is just the paint.... graphics will be applied to break it up a bit and fit everything together nicely. Stay tuned buddy!.
