Re: Yes You Can Still Buy A P-51D
Well, there are currently 174 active Mustangs worldwide (not including so many more, not flown/under restoration) - and I know many of them could be purchased if you offered the right amount to the current owner. Many Mustangs, and other warbirds, have been pursued/purchased/offered/sold with them never being publicly advertised (even while the plane is/was still under restoration). Speaking of which, the P-51D "Flying Dutchman" was sold to a German collector/buyer this year, and I don't recall the aircraft ever being publicly offered for sale.
Platinum Fighter Sales currently has six Mustangs for sale:
"Strega" (Price Unlisted)
"Tempus Fugit" ($2.795 million)
"Geraldine" ($2.395 million)
"Slender Tender & Tall" ($2.35 million)
Ex/Former-"Risky Business" ($1.75 million)
Unrestored Ex-Guatemalan AF ($1.5 million - or up to $4 million if you want to buy it along with a huge inventory of other Mustang-related parts, engines, assemblies, etc. from the seller)
Courtesy Aircraft, which has sold the most Mustangs of any broker over its many years of experience, sold two Mustangs and one Mustang project this year alone.
"Hurry Home Honey" is currently being offered for sale at $1.95 million through Controller: http://www.controller.com/listingsdetai ... 345163.htm

It's pretty cool to see the interest and the movement from owner to owner of these classic warbirds.

Don't worry about the price. "Dear Santa, ..."
Re: Yes You Can Still Buy A P-51D
I'm on the fence about paying somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 million bucks for a real P-51. For this kind of money, I could buy a computer that could run Prepar3d 2.4 almost fully maxed out with a lot of the stuttering reduced. I would probably still have to disable cloud shadows though.
