Just out of pure curiousity, I figured I would ask this. How (in the FSX world) do you fly your Mustangs? What I mean is, do you just select any airport you feel like flying out of, or do you assign your P-51 to a "home base"?
My example, I have the "Never Miss" repaint (because I like that one, and it's the geographically closest)
Its the one that I have "based" at my home airport ( the one closest to my house) and I always start my flights from there. Over the weekend, I flew it down to Orlando Florida (3 legs). I landed it there Sunday Morning. It will stay there until I "virtually" fly it back to my home base.
Anyone else fly like this?

Re: How do you fly your Mustangs?
I have been very fortunate in this respect. During the FSX beta, Microsoft created a hangar and placed it exactly where I wanted it on what used to be my home field. That hangar is situated on a large ramp that still exists that once was the ramp for the 142nd fighter squadron Delaware ANG. Both the ramp and the hangar now exist in FSX at their exact original locations.PonyDriver wrote:Just out of pure curiousity, I figured I would ask this. Then a very nice person on this forum recreated the large squadron sign that existed on the wall of the hangar and now that as well is as the original.
I park the A2A Civilian Mustang (5412V) which was done by A2A in the livery of a friend's Mustang in the exact spot on that ramp where I both met the man who was responsible for my entry into aviation and as well once once parked the Mustang I flew.
So for me, FSX and the A2A Mustang are quite real and represent a LOT of memories past.

Re: How do you fly your Mustangs?
I fly all my A2A aircraft from where I left them. At the moment my C172 is at EGLC together with my C182. Both my P51's are at EGKA and my B-17 is at EGSU. My P51 civ was last used for a tour in southern Europe trip together with the virtual flying club I'm in(CIX VFR Club) and the Mil version was used at our club airshow at Shoreham where I flew a solo display.
Kind Regards
Tomas

My military Mustang is based out of Luke AFB, but at the moment it is at Edwards. Lots of space to practice. I use my civ Mustang in airhauler and that is based in the PNW at Moses Lake.

Re: How do you fly your Mustangs?
I tend to fly the Mustang on short flights locally in the UK, so Duxford (Using the great ACG scenery of how Duxford is today) to Humberside etc. However recently I've been flying around the world, flying the A2A Fleet. Currently still wondering around Hawaii though I might start the flight to the mainland US today.
thanks,
Lewis

The mil.51 usually at one of Ian P's airfields in England. Simulate bomber escorts, fighter sweeps.
The civ. 51 kept at KOSH. Simulate flying at airshows.

Re: How do you fly your Mustangs?
I fly my civ P-51 out of a couple of airports in southern Germany that have a suitable runway length. But often it is in Duxford with the wonderful freeware ACG scenery displaying airshows.
It is a wonderful aircraft to fly. Thanks A2A!

I usually start out of my home airport KCDW but sometimes I will change it up depending on how the mood strikes me. There is no set plan anymore these days.

Re: How do you fly your Mustangs?
I fly mine out of my home base of FL60 (Reynolds Airpark) during the winter. The real Reynolds Airpark is a government owned private strip. I played the what if card and made my own hangars and houses on the field in FSX and turned it into a real airpark. For the summertime I base myself out of KLSE which is where I live in reality.
My default flight is at my home base and if I go on a trip and land somewhere else I save that flight after everything is shut down at the destination airport and save it as flight away from home.

I tend to hang out mostly around KBVY, the nearest airport to me.

Re: How do you fly your Mustangs?
I just kind of started in California sometime last year and started heading east, picking up each time where I landed last. Right now, my Mustang is parked in Hanoi, Vietnam.
