Taking the horse to the ranch.

Taking the horse to the ranch.

Post by Lufthansa 380 »

Today I wanted to test the bush and short-field capabilities of the Mustang so I took it for a ride around Gypsum Creek Ranch (CO47).

Warming up the engine during the Colorado winter takes some time.

This airflied is situated at around 7600' MSL and has a very narrow, bumpy, and sloped runway. Every inch counts during takeoff and landing.

Looks like a short-field takeoff to me...

Was quite a challenge to keep this horse on the narrow strip but the downwards slope really helps during takeoff.

After a couple low-passes over the ranch, it was time to land this thing again - better make no mistake. Aiming for 90mph over the treshhold, then cutting the power and letting the bird settle itself on the strip. Some good aerodynamic braking was required to stop before the end. Everything went perfect this time.

Again, the upwards slope helps slowing it down.

Parked, engine off and here we are again. Was quite a challenge - the P-51 really has some serious bush-capabilities.

Yes pretty awesome screenshots. And yes the Stang is a beast especially on narrow and short runways.

Thanks for sharing

Cracking screenshots, the winter white really plays nice against the livery of the Mustang 8)

No, this airstrip is part of Orbx's KEGE Eagle County Airport.

First time I've had to go to the closet and put on a jacket just to look at screenshots!

There's no better day to fly than on a clear and cold winter day. :D

True. Those days tend to give you absolute stunning visibility and scenery (if there's ever snow again in Germany  )

Haha, true. I'm heading east on the weekend, hoping to see some snow there over christmas. :)
