P-51 Military after 4-16-16 Update

Post by Jacques »

I am no longer able to control the P-51 on the takeoff roll.

On the takeoff, advancing the throttle through 30" gives normal sensations, a little left rudder is needed then right rudder as you approach 30". Past 35", the torque is so strong I can't control the aircraft with full right rudder-she simply careens off the runway to the left.

I use a CH Yoke and CH pedals, both calibrated for full control surface deflection.

I deleted the .dat files with similar results.
I shut down and restarted the computer with the same results.
I ran the update again, shut down and restarted with the same results.
Ensured rudder to 6 degrees right.
Only thing I haven't tried is going back to an earlier update-- I'm simply out of time!

Anybody else observe this in the military P-51?

Testing using FSXA. Rudder controls fine on take off. I throttle up to 30 before releasing the brakes.

Thanks, Robert. A bit disappointing on my end since I'm obviously on my own with this one.

Whatever it is it has to be local. I have the same setup, the same update installed, and can't replicate this issue.

Also tested from idle 800-1000rpm, slow throttle up to max, rudder controls are good.
I might suspect your rudder pedals?

Yes, Robert confirmed for me that it is local. I'm not sure why the rudder settings would be at fault because they worked fine pre-update! I'm using FSX:SE, which is still just FSX so I should be used to strange things like this happening, yes? :D

When I look at the Mustang from the external view and watch the rudder, it appears to deflect equally and fully to both sides. And, there are no problems with rudder authority or "feel" up to the point where MP is pushed beyond 35"-40". I'll work on it some more tomorrow. I'm sure I'll figure it out! Thanks to both of you for your feedback!

This may be a bit harder to figure...I just did twenty minutes of touch and go's and full stops with 3-27-16 no problem, applied 4-16-16 and after a shutdown and restart of the computer, I can't keep the Mustang from drifting rapidly off the left side of the runway. Also strange is the absence of sound in the external view. I'll try to re-calibrate the pedals tomorrow...but the absence of external sound is troubling.

Jacques which P-51 is it that you are experiencing an issue with and which sim platform?

Also just to check you have the P-51 + the P-51 Accu-sim pack.

thanks,
Lewis

Lewis, the P-51 Military with Accu-sim on FSX:SE.

I'm completely resigned to this being a problem with my system and set-up as Robert and Dudley report everything is normal on their end.

I haven't had enough time to thoroughly test things, but yesterday I did roll back to 3-27-16 and was able to control the Mustang on takeoff. Re-installed 4-16-16 and had no luck controlling the torque on takeoff. Just really strange.

Did someone else report an absence of external sound after running the update? I thought I saw a post to that effect but couldn't find it when searching the forum.

not that I can remember, but external sound not playing would be a weird one as thats a pretty default fs system.

P-51 Military after 4-16-16 Update

Post by Jacques »

Yeah, but not to worry, Lewis. I think I'm back in... I think. I recalibrated the pedals, did a complete uninstall/reinstall of the P-51... and went back in and forbade Windows to turn off the USB ports, again. Test flight went very well with rudder authority restored. I like Windows 10, but also regret letting it migrate in--seems as if there are some issues with permissions that didn't migrate in with the new OS...strange.
Things are too crazy right now to try and suss out what is going on!

Thank you, though, Lewis, Robert and Dudley. I appreciate your assisstance always.

Hi Lewis, just letting you know that it is all good--very, very good!

I'm still quite new to the Mustang so I'm not sure if I'm seeing the results of updates, or if they are just nuances in behavior that I've missed.

Everytime, and I mean everytime I fly the Mustang I notice some little feature that I think I must have missed the last time. I can't even put it into words how awestruck I am at the detail and care the team put into this airplane!

She is so much fun to fly!

I've been having that same problem. Recalibrated all my hardware and that didn't do anything. The weird thing is that for me its limited to the P-51 Civ.
