Wow! Beautiful work! Awesome CAD skill here don't you think guys? Are you an engineer or something Stang?
Thank you for sharing this! Will certainly come in handy at some point...

Thanks Steph.

Been doing ME work for the last 35 years :) My 10 minutes of fame and fortune came with call from the producers of the Iron Man movie (first movie). I ended up building the Aces II Ejection Seat used in that movie.

Let me know if I can help and come bnack later today to see more info on the actual build process.

Hi Guys

Here are a few CAD Pictures from the Assembly Process for the Small to Medium P-51D Cockpit.

This shows just how easy it is to assemble the cockpit.

Easy Cheesy!

:D

Enjoy

Hi Stang

WOW! I wish I had information like this when I started my build as it is step by step with great drawings and dimensions.

Great job Stang!

Thanks Lewis.

I'm hoping the cockpit plans will help people get started building a relatively low cost and simple to assemble cockpit.

The hard work is setting up additional displays, switches, and levers to work accurately.

You can always just build the cockpit, put your joystick and throttle in it and a monitor on top, and you're ready to fly.

It can be as simple or complicated as you like...your choice.

Let me know if I can help.

Hey Guys,
I bought the 51 plans from Stang he is a mechanical engineer.
His originals, as seen above are CAD generated but he also has provided them to me in PDF.
Stang directed to me to a free viewer https://www.autodesk.com/products/dwg/viewer. The viewer is DWG Trueview. much faster and better presentation than Google's SketchUp or any other viewer I have used.
The CAD can be taken to a cabinet shop that has a CNC and have them cut,
but I intend to save $100's and take the 1:1 PDF's to a print shop for printing then cut the parts myself.
All I have to do now is lay them out on the material of choice and cut away. No
more trying to read blurred 70+ years old recopied microfiche plans.
At this point, he does not have the prints of the right side switches or the left side pedestal assembly control and etc, but will be providing them later.
The so called full size prints that I have measure out to be approximately 17" long for the left side pedestal assembly. WRONG!!!
Real nice and professional guy to deal with.
Hope this helps
Tom

Thanks Tom for the kind words.

I'm glad we were able to get the cockpit customized to your specifications.

I am almost finished with the interior cockpit items like the Pilots Control Pedestal, Landing Gear Lever, Throttle Control, Radio and Switch boxes, etc. As I finish each item or make any updates, I'll send out new CAD files to all those that purchased the Cockpit Plans for free, for life. This way everyone has the latest and greatest CAD editions and stays up to date with changes, additions, and add-ons.

My goals were: Realistic, Accurate, Inexpensive and Easy to Build.

The Small to Medium size cockpit can be built (Fuselage only) for less than 50.00 if you use MDF for material. A little more for Plywood. Two sheets will do it with a few 2x4's. My thought is, this opens the door to lots of people that wanted to build a cockpit simulator but couldn't afford it.

Once the fuselage is built, you can choose to customize it as much or little as you choose, when you choose.

I wanted this to make things simple, rather than more complicated, and I think we've achieved that.

Glad to help anyone with a cockpit project...just say the word.

Let me know if I can help.

Stang

Here are a few pictures of the PDS Print files I provide with the AutoCAD files.

This can be printed at a local print shop at full size, then you cut the parts out, glue them to your material (MDF or Plywood), and cut out your parts. Easy Cheesy :D

These parts are for the Small and or Medium P-51D Cockpit

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Guys

I have just sent out a new CAD file to all those that got the plans.

In it, I've added a number of cockpit items like Pilots Control Pedestal, Landing Gear Handle, Main Instr Panel, Trim Control Knobs, Flap Handle, etc.

You can view everything I've added http://imgur.com/a/PLH4c

Here are a few teaser shots.
